Pump Motor Dead - What should I do?

They did have to replace the impeller. And they also replaced the... um... "plastic thingy" that goes between the impeller and the pump. It had a a partial separation from it's "nozzle" and the base. So the old, failing motor hadn't been moving as much water and that is what led to the...

Pump Motor Dead - What should I do?

I ended up choosing to replace the motor myself. (I am not a DIYer!!). I replaced with a single speed motor. For a lot of reasons, it was the best choice for my situation. I was amazed at how easy it was -- 6 bolts and it was off. Then a few small screws to remove the wiring and it...

Pump Motor Dead - What should I do?

So, what I can find says it runs longer but at a lower speed. Then you go high speed for vacuuming or backwashing. I run my pool vac whenever the pump is running to keep my pool clean -- right now,the pump runs for about 6 hours a day. So, I don't see that I would ever be running it...

Pump Motor Dead - What should I do?

If there is a benefit and I can just replace the single speed motor with a 2-speed motor, I would do that. I'm trying to avoid replacing the pump and having to redo the plumbing... Is there any other benefit besides saving "a little" electricity?

Pump Motor Dead - What should I do?

Everything that I can find says it applies to pumps and motors or motors alone... But, I called a local pool store and they said I can just replace the motor... He said the law applies to contractors and commercial but not to individuals. So, I'll give it a try! Thanks!

Pump Motor Dead - What should I do?

2014 is the year of the pool. Just when I think everything is going smoothly, another issue. I'm so thankful to have someplace to turn for advice. I noticed Wednesday morning that the pump wasn't running. Finally got some folks out to the house today. Motor sparks and smells bad and...

Black Algae in my pool (one month after SLAM and following TFP)?

No toys. Just me, my pups and an occasional tennis ball (ok, I know that's a toy but not your typical pool toy :) ). I have been wearing one bathing suit in the pool with elevated chlorine (below SHOCK when I go in) to do the brushing. I am assuming that is just as good as the washing machine...

Black Algae in my pool (one month after SLAM and following TFP)?

I decided to stop being a chicken about the light. Realized that with the switch off it should be fine.... so, the light is now out. There was a bunch of **** that fell into the pool. Light is now floating on the surface so back to SLAMing. I found another source of algae that I didn't...

Black Algae in my pool (one month after SLAM and following TFP)?

OK. I admit it... I did not remove the light. Water and electricity don't mix and it makes me nervouse Also, the previous homeowners did some weird things when they installed things. The light isn't on the same a breaker as the pool -- there's a gfci that we had installed when we had...

Black Algae in my pool (one month after SLAM and following TFP)?

I brushed all the tile, around the returns and the light with a stainless brush - everyplace it could be hiding. I was SHOCKED at the amount of algae that was on/around the light. Wasn't visible to me but there was a lot! I must not have brushed the light well enough during my SLAM in...

Black Algae in my pool (one month after SLAM and following TFP)?

I finished my SLAM (in another thread) just over a month ago. Since then I have been carefully maintaining proper levels of FC based on my CYA. I noticed a week ago what looked like a "clump" of algae on the threads of one of the returns. Thought maybe I had missed brushing it from before...

Can I really go two sunny days in AZ with no chlorine loss?

Ah... I'm a dummy! No SWG. But, I do have some left-over trichlor in my floaters working to raise the CYA. They've been in there since I finished my SLAM. I realized over the weekend that my calculation for how much I needed to raise my CYA by 10 had been way off. So, I added a...
