    Debunking the "Chlorine Lock" Myth

Awesome! Thanks for clearing that up for me. I knew there was a confusion between the two. I also thought they were the same thing. Mainly, I knew chlorine demand was a thing, but I thought chlorine lock was just another name for it. Now I know and I appreciate it :-)

    Debunking the "Chlorine Lock" Myth

Ok, this makes sense. So am I safe to say that chlorine demand and chlorine lock are two different things and chlorine lock really isn't a thing? When I use to work for a pool retailer, we use to sell Bioguard. They actually had a complete chlorine demand test station that cost an extreme...

    Debunking the "Chlorine Lock" Myth

So what is taking place when someone adds chlorine to their water and not getting a reading? My pool companies believe this to be chlorine demand or chlorine lock and the cure being to throw a s**tload of chlorine at it until it starts to read. I always found this hard to swallow. Is it just a...

    Pictures of my algae

I have something similar on my sliding glass door. I believe it's from frogs or bugs. I have a lot of frogs that like to hang out on my door (I think they're tree frogs). It could be their poop. 2 years ago, I had them in my house. So that's why I also think it could be from bugs.

Best way to cool down pool temp

I know it's completely impractical, but I developed a little online calculator to determine how many pounds of ice it would take to cool down your swimming pool to a desired temperature. Just for fun.

    Water is stlll cloudy

Well... what floc does is sink everything to the bottom which forces you to vacuum it out. A clarifier like Polysheen Blue, brings those cloudy particles together to make the particle bigger so that your filter will be able to snag it. Filter enhancers also help to snag smaller particles. Sand...

    Water is stlll cloudy

I'm a little bias, but I think that Bioguard's Polysheen Blue is the best clarifier I have ever used. As far as flocculant, I don't prefer one over another. I have used 3 or 4 different brands and they all gave the same result. I have used Bioguard (of course) and a brand called Pool Protector...

What Chemicals Should You Use To Clean Your Hot Tub With?

I have told customers of mine to use a couple of different household cleaners to clean their hot tub with when they drain it. I have told customers to use windex, 409 and any kitchen surface cleaner. Lysol makes a good anti-bacterial kitchen cleanser. I always made sure to tell them to rinse it...

Need Help Creating A Swimming Pool Data Sheet

I am in the process of creating a one-page sheet that a customer can print out to write down all the things they need to know about their pool and spa. I want to make one for an above ground pool and an inground pool. All residential. This sheet can help homeowners to keep track of the equipment...

    Water is stlll cloudy

Bama Rambler is correct. Your filter needs to do its' job and clear that water for you. You can use different aids to speed up the process like a clarifier. You can also use some filter enhancers to help your filter pick up finer particles. Running your pump and filter 24 hours until is clear is...

    The Golden Child

Thanks for welcoming me. I guess I have a lot to learn. I am not "worldly" when it comes to pool care. I know what I've been taught and what I've read throughout my years. This site just allows me to continue my education in the world of pool care. Thanks again! :-D

    The Golden Child

I would just like to introduce myself to the forum. I actually joined yesterday, but didn't see the introducing thread until today. My name is Matt Giovanisci and I'm from Williamstown, NJ. I have been working in the pool and spa industry since I was 13 years old... I started as a young lad at...

Do I need to redo my winterizing? Advice needed today.

While mentioning the pump, make sure if you have a heater or a chemical feeder that the drain plugs are removed off of those too. I like to remove all the drain plugs and store them in the pump basket so that I always know where they are. As for the sight glass, that's a good idea to bring...

    question about antifreeze

It's much better to blow out the lines than to use all that Anti-freeze, plus it's cheaper. Also, if they use a non-toxic chemical it should be safe. However, you should try to avoid adding those chemicals to the pool if you don't have to.
