    Booster and main pump voltage

Should a pool motor be idealy 220 or 120 volts. Both of mine are set up for 120 V right now and I did not set up the wiring so feel a little short changed for such a powerful motor running so long. I wish I could change my wiring to 220 but assume it will cost alot to pay an electrician.

    leaking threaded connections

I'm having the same problem right now. I have used just pipe dope with no luck and tried just 3 layers of teflon tape with no luck. Next I will try a thin layer of pipe dope followed by teflon (1 layer) and finish with some pipe dope and tighten with a strap wrench 1 1/2 past hand snug. Hope...

    Filter basket placement

Its a Polaris 280 cleaner with the standard mesh leaf catcher on it. I'm just not sure where the basket is suposed to go, the clip seems like it is too loose on the hose.

    Filter basket placement

Does the filter basket clip attach to the hose tightly or does it go on the hose loosely?

    Leaves clogging up pipes

So after using the drain king on both skimmer lines I was stumped and ready to take apart the pump itself and rebuild. Right before shuting down the pump last night I stuck my hand inside to feel for any debris in the impeller and found a little bit so pulled it out. Turns out that little bit...

    pump will not prime

The pump basket does not seem to be warped at all. After I attempt to flush out the skimmer lines with a drain king I will take apart the pump and see if the seal set needs replacement. Thanks for the help.

    pump will not prime

So I went on a 13 day trip and forgot to ask a neighbor to keep an eye on the water level of the pool. The water level got below the skimmers with the pump still running. I got the water level up and the pump running for a day or two and now the pump will not fully prime. Also the sand filter...

    Leaves clogging up pipes

So after returning home from a 13 day trip my pool had a ton of leaves in it. I got the pump primed and working and cleaned the skimmers a day or two later only to find that the pump now can not fully achieve the pressure it needs to properly function. This leads me to believe some leaves and...

Teflon tape or something else for pcv threads?

Awsome responses guys. I knew there had to be an alternative to the tape I'm used to. I have found that the tape tends to perforate/ tear in some situations, especially for larger pipes as you mentioned. Also I just upgraded to a Sand Dollar SD-80 filter. Seems like a winner so far.

Teflon tape or something else for pcv threads?

What works better than teflon tape for pvc threads to the filter connection. I used teflon tape but It is leaking slightly, is there something different/better, thanks.

How many laterals in Sand Dollar SD-80

Thanks for the link. I have researched the filter I want and the price the local store up the street is charging combined with a 10% discount is very much in line with online prices. You have me convinced that the old one got its money worth as well and its time to "invest" in the pool once...

How many laterals in Sand Dollar SD-80

So I can get a new Sand Dollar SD-80 for about $400. After thinking about it for a while I'm pretty sure I will just replace the entire freaking filter. I replaced the pump just a few months ago and feel that after this I will have replaced all the major items, minus the liner. Any thoughts...

How many laterals in Sand Dollar SD-80

Title says it all. I'm getting sand in the pool and after research feel replacing the laterals is the best solution. I do not know how many are in the filter. Also I have thought about buying an entirely new SD-80 due to the fact the filter is very old, maybe 25-30 years. Any ideas, thanks.

Figuring out filter model without sticker on it

Thats what I thought. So if I do the math the filter diameter is 26'' making mine a SD80. I wanted to know this because I was debating to either change out the laterals or replace the entire filter to stop sand from getting in the pool. The entire filter is almost 30 years old in my...
