In case anyones interested, I think i've finally found the budget bleach solution for my local area. Following the suggestion of some folks in other threads I went to Albertsons (not normally my low price supermarket choice...). They have a 96oz 6% bleach brand for 99c (not on special).

Hi folks, From my readings of the board. The advise is to use 'plain' bleach..with no additives. I've been buying the 6% Great Value walmart bleach...the bottle says nothing about it having any extra stuff in. However...the bleach is lime green looking...is this normal? The bottle of clorox...

I didn't have any luck finding the liquid shock at Home Depot. I did find Clorox 6% bleach at the ungodly price of $3.97 for about a gallon and a half. The best i've come up with is Walmart no-name brand 6% bleach for $2.28 for about a gallon and a third...and I'll have to smuggle that into...

I'll have to go look for that 'Liquid Shock' at the home depot. I know if my SO catches me pouring something labelled 'Bleach' in the pool there will be trouble...the picture of the pool on the bottle will give my actions some legitimacy:)

Thanks, I found some regular 6% clorox bleach at the Lowes...suspiciously near the pool supplies section:) I'm amazed how expensive this stuff is....about $3.50 for less than a gallon and a half.

I called Leslies today to get a price for Liquid Chlorine, and was told the state did not let them sell it. Does anyone know why? Is there some negative to using liquid chlorine that prompted this ban (assuming it in fact exists...?) Thanks!

Thanks for the responses folks. I'm going to skip the Tabs and the autofeeder. The water is pretty clear...maybe not quite sparkling..but it looks pretty good to me. When you say bring the Chlorine to 2-4ppm...whic of the Chlorine measurements is that...FC or TC? To increase the CYA do I...

Hi, My TF-100 kit arrived, and I have taken my first set of readings. These are the numbers: FC 1.0 CC 0.5 TC 1.5 pH 7.8 (hard to tell this one really accurate using the kit) T/A 130 CH 90 CYA <20 (i could still barely see the dot when the tube was almost full) What should be my first steps...

Good evening TFPers, I am seeing evidence of algae appearing in my pool (if started from scratch with fresh water and chemicals added by the pool guys two or three weeks ago) I have been waiting patiently for my test kit to arrive for several days...but unfortunately it has not arrived yet...

Our Baracuda Vacuum appears to only clean about a quarter of our pool. When I look out the upstairs window, the pool floor near where it is plugged in is clean, but the rest of the pool has dirt/dust scattered around on the floor. Any suggestions for getting the Baracuda to roam more? Or am I...
