Hayward narrow skimmer v.s. wide mouth skimmer

I have a 24' x 4' above ground swimming pool. When I bought the house it originally had a "standard" hayward skimmer. Recently I found the skimmer started to separate from the pool wall. I found after removal that the gasket had failed allowing water to get to the pool wall and cause a...

Easy for water to get into new motor (tripping GFCI).

I don't have the exact model numbers. But my old A.O. Smith motor was the one with a black plastic cap on the bottom of it. I would pull the cover to clean out the strainer basket. Water would get on the motor etc. The motor would start up with no problem. The new motor seems to be very...

How do commercial entities manage their pools (i.e. water parks)

I was thinking the exact same thing. It would be interesting if the chlorine level was around 20 or so. I would also be curious if they add borates and CYA?

How do commercial entities manage their pools (i.e. water parks)

I did find this. http://science.howstuffworks.com/engineering/structural/water-slide4.htm and this http://goulds.com/centrifugal-pumps-boosters/commercial-pool-water-park-pumps/ It appears they use pretty much everything we use. With the exception that everything is on a massive scale. So...

How do commercial entities manage their pools (i.e. water parks)

I've visited six flags a few times in my area. I've been to the water park. It has quite a huge pool. I imagine millions of gallons of water. One thing I notice is the water seems pretty highly chlorinated. You can stand next to the edge of the pool and small chlorine? The only time that...

Does the skimmer weir (door) have any purpose?

So I have a hayward standard skimmer. When I bought the house the skimmer weir was missing. I bought a new weir and placed it in. I noticed it requires a higher water level. It seems it dose something to the water, almost like restricts water coming into the skimmer?

The proper way to repair a hole in the liner.

So I have two small holes (maybe the size of a quarter) in my liner. I used the hth liner repair kit. It appears to work quite well. When applied underwater the water pressure seems to hold it in place. It actually forces it's way down into the hole enough where it creates a tight seal. I...

    Finding exact quantity of water.

So I have a 24' round 4' deep pool. however, I notice the pool floor is not completely flat. It actually gets deeper as you get towards the center. I've always been doing the calculation based that I have 13,500 gallons. But I know it's more than that.

What happens if your borate level is too high?

Just curious. I notice the tutorial here about borate. But non mention if it's too high.

    Is this worth it.

Well looks like it was a great deal. I went to the guy's house. I talked him down to $25.00. I took it home and took the motor apart. It appeared that the bottom of the motor had sat in water (low) for some time as it had some surface rust. It appeared the starter winding switch had worn...

Resistance Check on Primary and Starter Windings

Does anyone know what the General resistance should be on the Windings of a 1.5 HP a.o smith? Thanks

Is a super low GPM pump better than a higher one?

OK, If that is the case. Is there some sort of "Variable Resister" I can splice between my pump so that I can "slow" the pump down a little? I'm thinking some of those Light dimmers.

Is a super low GPM pump better than a higher one?

So here's the deal, I got a new filter (filter details in signature). When I installed the new filter coincidentally my pool pump blew (posted a thread about this a while back). So while I ordered a new pump I placed a shallow well pump (3/4 hp) 9.2 gpm pump as a substitute. This pump was...

What kind of motor does the "newer" variable speed perm magnet pumps use

Re: What kind of motor does the "newer" variable speed perm magnet pumps use How about a 240 pump v.s. a 115?

What kind of motor does the "newer" variable speed perm magnet pumps use

See how expensive they are. It seems to me much of the expense is in the fact that they have a digital computer circuit and a perm mag motor. Is the motor simply a DC "type" treatmill motor. Because if this is the case you can get them pretty cheap and then use a Full Wave Rectifier to the motor.
