    Really LOW alk & PH

Ok, neighbor finally bought some baking soda and borax and added that, but added it all at once. I tested his water tonight and alk is finally up to 40 (from unmeasurably low) and ph is low, around 6.2, but at least it finally has a reading. His water was clear, but he added everything at...

    Intex model 5667 sand filter

Thanks Dave! I've got to start thinking beyond Intex.

    Intex model 5667 sand filter

Thanks for all the responses. The pump came in shortly after I posted and I was so busy setting it up and then bowing in admiration to it that I forgot to check this thread. Wow, what a difference! Love it and it is getting a lot of the fine dead algae out of my pool that I was going to have...

    Really LOW alk & PH

Apparently they've been using it. I don't think they are now after we talked. He says it felt fine, except for his eyes burning. It's a wonder he can still see! Pretty, clear water can be deceiving if you don't have a clue what you're doing.

    Really LOW alk & PH

Thanks Jason! I needed confirmation that I needed to start with the TA first. That's a lot less volume, between baking soda and borax, so as not to intimidate him too much. I've been a BBB devotee for many years and, as we know, trying to convert someone who relies on the pool store for...

    Really LOW alk & PH

Thanks. Yes, I trust the basic numbers. When he adds the red phenol to the pool water for the ph, it is clear. Alk, on that little 6-way test immediately turns red on the first drop of the re-agent if you know what I'm talking about. Pool store tells him he has "no" ph or alk. So, am I...

    Really LOW alk & PH

Ok, my neighbor got pool-stored really, really bad. He's reading Pool School and is a little overwhelmed by it all, but he'll get it. Meantime, I was working with him to get his chlorine steady and CYA up. Then he tells me his alk & ph aren't even showing up. I know he needs a test kit...

Intex Sand Filter w/ SWG and stupid Copper

Thanks! That's reassuring. I just saw the one plug for the SWG and copper section on the picture. As long as I can take it off of there, that's great. As for the why question... I've learned through this website and a predecessor site to keep it simple when it comes to pool chemicals...

Intex Sand Filter w/ SWG and stupid Copper

So, I find this great deal on a new Intex Sand Filter pump w/ an inline SWG, but it also has the copper ionizer thing. It's an upgrade from the original pump cartridge system with SWG (no copper--and no its not for sale just yet!). I'm done with the paper cartridges and bad filtration. I've...

    Intex model 5667 sand filter

Not trying to hijack your tread, but I just ordered one too. I've only dealt with intex cartridge filter pumps all these years and am a little intimidated by the sand filter. I've even looked at the install instructions at Intex and another video of the install on YouTube, but I have a few...

    Census Poll on Intex Users

First post here, but I've been a member for quite some time. Bought the 18x52 ultra frame last year... upgraded from our original 18' easy set (blue blob), which lasted us around 4 years, so we got our money's worth out of that one. I started using the BBB method with the first intex and it...
