    Available chlorine vs sodium hypochlorite

So my normal supplier of pool shock switched brands and instead of 10% sodium hypochlorite on the old brand, the new brand says 15% available chlorine and 12.5% sodium hypochlorite. My guess is I need to calculate using sodium hypochlorite, but I wanted to ask to be double sure. On the bright...

    Pool calculator Android app

Yeah, that simplepool is a pretty good alternative. I've noticed a couple inconsistencies between it and the pool calculator.

    Pool calculator Android app

I was wondering about the pool calculator app for Android, or another app. Is the calculator app worth it? I downloaded a free app called pool pal, but the amount of bleach varies between it's calculations and that of poolcalculator.com. Does anyone have any experience with this app or another...

    Are CYA Tests Unreliable?

From my limited experience on here it can take 3-4 days for the CYA to fully dissolve into the water, and up to a week to fully register on the test. So wait another 5 days or so to retest. According to the pool calculator it should be boosted up to 30 ppm. Best of luck!!!

First test of year after new liner and refill

I have a cartridge filter, not sand. I cleaned my cartridge as good as possible(still a little dirty, but definitely usable) and have 2 new ones on the way. Thanks, I will wait until this evening to add more bleach. But am I correct in needing to bring it to shock level? The water is clear...

    Great Value Bleach vs Clorox

Is great value bleach the same concentration as clorox? I also read a post where someone was saying something about bleach being super cheap at Aldi's. Is there bleach comparable? From what I understand Clorox is 6% correct? If someone could tell me what the others are, so I could make the...

Swimming in a pool with algae and no chlorine

When I got in, the were probably no cc's because there had been no FC for years. lol, I was mainly wondering if anyone else had experienced this or knew if it was algae causing my itching or something else. The itching went right away after scrubbing down in a nice, hot shower, but it's just my...

Swimming in a pool with algae and no chlorine

Oh yeah, I've been keeping my pool at or near shock lever for a week now, running filter 24/7, following pool school, pool calculator, and all other instructions from forum members. I was just curious what was making me itch.

Swimming in a pool with algae and no chlorine

I finally got time to try to open my pool this year, it had been closed for the whole 2 years that I have owned the house, and I have no clue how many years before I bought it. So needless to say the pool was very dark green with a ton of leaves, twigs, pine needles, and who knows what else on...
