    OK, good advice. Thanks. I may end up going with a self powered one/self contained with bag, but can't afford the robot at the moment. We'll see. Might have to see how well a hose connects in the skimmer.

    Thanks! I am having trouble finding the skimmer plate (old Anthony pool with a square housing). Can I just plug the hose directly into the suction whole in the skimmer?

    Re: New Pool owner of very old pool via a short sale Additional info for the curious: pool is said to be fiberglass, estimated about 18,000 gallons (kidney shape so sort of tough to estimate but it's 30' Long by 16' wide at widest/14' at tighter sides, 9 ft at greatest depth/3 at shallow)...
