Algae Returns with Proper Water Chemistry

Thank you all for the insight. We have received lots of heavy rainfall over the last few weeks. I will SLAM and then raise my chlorine levels as suggested. That combined with regular brushing sounds like a reasonable plan. If you think of other possibilities, please let me know.

Algae Returns with Proper Water Chemistry

When I had the outbreak earlier in August, I did pull the light out and clean the niche, which did have algae behind it. Regarding the brushing, i don’t manually brush it on a regular basis but I do run a Polaris cleaner every few days. Will lack of brushing lead to my issue after a period of time?

Algae Returns with Proper Water Chemistry

Hello, I changed over to a Hayward SWG around July 4th of this year. Since then, I have had two minor algae outbreaks. Both appear to have happened with water chemistry in the recommended ranges from this site. After the first, I SLAMed and got it cleared up. Now three weeks later, the same...

Algae Keeps Coming Back, Even After a SLAM

I was able to pull my light out yesterday and found a good amount of dark green algae living between the light and the housing. I cleaned the housing and started the the SLAM process again. I hope between the algae in the light and deep cleaning the filter that this problem of recurring algae...

Algae Keeps Coming Back, Even After a SLAM

I noticed more green tint to the bottom of the pool when I got home today. It was noticeably green when brushed. Charlie_R...I have not deep cleaned the filter as this is my second year of owning the home/pool. However, once I saw additional green in the pool, I removed the valve to deep...

Algae Keeps Coming Back, Even After a SLAM

Hi everyone, I have an issue that I would like some additional expertise on. I battled this same issue last year as well. To make a long story short, I have had some fine, brownish-green (mostly brown) "stuff" in the the cracks and wrinkles of my pool all summer. It poofs up and disperses...

    Free Chlorine Testing

Thanks for the feedback. I performed the OCLT and chlorine did not drop over night. For the past week, everything has been as expected with crystal clear water. I am now convinced that my measurements are accurate and the "algae" on the floor was fine debris that the filter has not captured...

    Free Chlorine Testing

Yes I am using the 10 ml line and dividing number of drops by two just as you described. I have been using two flat (not heaped) scoops of powder as per the instructions. So my most recent reading of 17 ppm was 34 drops.

    Free Chlorine Testing

Two days ago, I tested FC two times and both readings were 8.5. The next day I noticed algae starting to grow on the bottom of the pool so I added two pounds of cal-hypo shock. That's how the FC increased. I retested today two different times and read 17 both times. I trusted my k-2006...

    Free Chlorine Testing

Hello, I have discovered a major difference in my Taylor k-2006 free chlorine test results when compared to numerous other methods. Two days ago, the Taylor kit measured 8.5 but algae had once again started to grow. I took a water sample to two pool stores. Each store tested using their...
