planning and preparing for a liner replacement

doobs - at the latest, mid-October; and, yes, once it's closed I won't have to open until next spring for the liner replacement Leebo - the difference between our situations is that your water was probably in balance before the tear happened whereas mine's a mess. When you say "walls caving...

planning and preparing for a liner replacement

I plan on replacing the liner next spring. The thing is my pool water's gotten away from me for the last few weeks and is looking rather swamp-like. Should I spend the time and money getting the water in balance before closing the pool? My hectic schedule is telling me doing so would be a...

Balance even though H20 is green?

Thanks, everyone, for your input. I just need to stock up on beverages, and I'll be good to go this weekend.

Balance even though H20 is green?

Just to clarify: I should spend a couple days cleaning manually before testing my water and adding anything?

Balance even though H20 is green?

Hi All, I know the water has to be in balance before any attempt at the shocking process; however, should I be brushing/cleaning/vacuuming as well as running the pump and backwashing before adding any chemicals to the water? I've taken out all the leaves/debris, just stuck on this next step...

    Winter cover ripped

Thanks, z. Now how do I easily dispose of this giant, smelly piece of trash? :?

    Winter cover ripped

My winter cover has a 9 - 10" rip right along a middle seam. It led to a lot of water being pumped out of my pool (posted about in the open/close forum) but that's another story. Is this easy to repair or should I just buy another cover? The only thing I can think of to make it waterproof is...

    Water level very low

Thanks for the replies. I can understand the pump/hole-in-cover scenario, and I'll inspect the cover for a hole. As for the leak scenario, since level was lowered below returns and lines were blown and sealed, would this mean I have a leak in my liner?

    Water level very low

The water level in my still closed pool has dropped significantly. The only thing that has been done this season is water pumped off the cover (by FIL while I was at work); besides a hole being present on the cover, is there any other reason the water level would drop? I closed the pool and...

    Question about main drain

Okay so the plug is removed, and the main drain seems to be pulling in a bit of water according to the debris test Richard outlined above. I think what I should have done is plugged my skimmer opening and set my filter to waste, so that none of the crud would be ejected back in to the pool...

    Too much salt

My water is free, so I was more concerned about losing swimming time, overworking my whole house water pump and throwing off the chemistry of the water, etc. But you're right, a small investment in time and effort could possibly save me an expensive repair or replacement.

    Question about main drain

Thanks, Jason; I'm going to remove the plug and keep an eye on the water level. What happens if a diverter in the skimmer is not used at all or not properly adjusted? and how do I know when I've reached ideal adjustment?

    Question about main drain

I can only see one pipe before the valve; my plumbing knowledge is very limited, but I'm guessing for a 3 way valve to function properly, the pipes would have to be joined directly at the valve point not at a point before the valve (in my case, this would be underground).

    Question about main drain

Under my skimmer basket are two holes; one is currently plugged with a rubber stopper (same as the ones I use to plug my returns). I guess I'm missing the diverter. Do all pool stores carry these? Once I do have one in place, how do I know I've reached the ideal balance point? Also, if I...

    Question about main drain

^^ Thanks for the explanation, Doc; here's some more info about my pool: There is only one valve in front of my pump (!). What does this mean? Is it possible that one valve controls both skimmer and drain? doesn't sound possible to me. This would mean that any time my pump is running, water...
