    How to add CYA?

I know this is an old thread, but I found it helpful so i thought I'd post a pic of my first attempt at adding "stabilizer"/cya to my pool. My wife doesn't know i raided her sock drawer :) Thats a broom handle holding the 2 in 1 hose in front of a return jet. Its only holding ~2lbs.

    Noobie chemistry question

Changed my mind about the pics, no one wants to see an old swampy pool. I'm really surprised how clear the water is now. Today the sun is intense so I had an umbrella shading a section of the shallow end where my daughter and I were hanging out. My torso was above the water and shaded, but my...

    Noobie chemistry question

Ya got me.... if only I could use photoshop! I'll add pics of what the pool looked like when we bought this place. It was areal swamp, at night the bats would swarm above it eating the bugs. Thanks a lot for the help. - - - Updated - - - Wait till I post pics from two years ago...

Sand filter and chlorine burn rate

Thanks. I'm going to clean the sand soon. I saw a YouTube video that showed the procedure and I'm very curious to see what's in there.

Yeah, it just started raining here, guess I'll wait till the a.m. for pics. My old concrete deck isn't very photogenic without sunshine so it's all good...

Sand filter and chlorine burn rate

This may be a dumb question: If organic matter in the pool eats chlorine and the sand filter catches organic matter, will a dirty sand filter (say one that hasn't had the sand cleaned in 5 years) increase the burn rate of chlorine as the water moves through it? I suppose it must, but after...

    Noobie chemistry question

So yesterday the FC went from 18 to 9ppm during the day. My pool gets a lot of sunlight during the day, so from what I've read on this forum that burn rate is normal. I got the FC back up to 18ppm and it was still 18ppm this morning. The water is very clear and the C.C. has been zero since the...

    Noobie chemistry question

Got the pool full after work yesterday and the cya is between 40 and 50. Last night I was getting a consistent 40 when i measured , but this morning I tried a few times and got varying results. Light reflecting off the water in the black dot beaker is the problem. My plan last night was to add...

    Noobie chemistry question

Yesterday I decided to drain some water. I drained ~22% out, I didn't want to drain much more, since the liner is new and I didn't want to cause a problem. Anyway, I almost got the pool filled back up by this morning. I let the garden hose run all night but only with the valve half open so it...

    Noobie chemistry question

At 6:40 am today the F.C. was 5.5 ppm, the test has .5 ppm accuracy so I'm gonna say no chlorine was eaten overnight. So I guess the rain messed up my first attempt at the overnight night test?
