Wedding cake stairs are an algae trap.

Here's a link to a thread I started some time ago about our stairs. If you scroll to the end of the thread you can see pictures of the holes I drilled in the stairs. I used a drill motor and a 2" hole saw. My maintenance on the stairs for the last two years has been to pull the stairs out...

    Liner Leak? - or Not

I got the cover back off and found the leaks. It's where the stairs have cut the wall part of the liner in about a dozen places. I think it's where the bottom of the stairs have bumped the liner pulling the stairs out for cleaning. The picture is one section of them about 12" square. The...

    Liner Leak? - or Not

To update this thread, the pool definitely has a major leak. It has been closed with a winter cover for a month and has lost half the water in the pool, about 24". At this rate it will be mostly empty soon. I have an area on the ground around the pool that is wet now. I don't know where the...

    Liner Leak? - or Not

I am getting concerned that I have a liner leak. First, the weather here has been hot, dry and windy for the last month with cold fronts passing through bringing in dry air, which never happens in August. Through all of that my water loss has grown to about 1/2" a day. The heat has backed off...

How long to run a pool pump

That's about $73 a month extra though. I started ours initially 24/7 which was $100 / month and then later scaled it back to about 8 hours a day. I changed out that pump to a two speed pump which I now run on low about 10 hours a day. I intend to scale that back when the pollen is finally...

    Liner Leaking

Well the new liner is in and the pool is refilled. The pool shell appeared to be in pretty good shape. The water chemistry is almost back in line but we have'nt gotten in the pool yet. However, it looks like there are a lot of wrinkles in the liner on the bottom of the pool. I'll have a...

    Liner Leaking

The pool is 7 to 9 years old. This is one reason I want to replace the liner, to see what is going on behind it. The rest of the rail that I can see looks good as does the whole of the shell. It sounds solid when I tap around on it with a screwdriver handle. We'll see when the liner comes...
