It's less than 2 years old. I just did this test and heard the three different speeds. I hear a grinding ticking noise in addition. The tracks don't move at all, they don't go forward or backwards.

My guess is chemically a salt water generator generates chlorine gas and hydrogen gas. There can be a risk of combustion of the hydrogen gas if the SWG is too close to the heater.
