I need a Hayward Clamp Bolt Assembly

I work at a large theater in town, so I asked the stagehands if they had any suggestions. After trying it with a tap and die set, one of the guys said, "heck, I'll just take it home and make you a new one!" So, instead of paying $240 for a part, I'll spend $25 on a bottle of Jack, and my...

I need a Hayward Clamp Bolt Assembly

After a few days of 80+ weather in SoCal, I figured I should get ahead of the game and clean my filters (Hayward de4820). When I was putting it back together, I realized that the clamp bolt and nut had both stripped. I then learned what you guys know- the clamp has been discontinued and these...

    Just Added Borates

How much did you pay for your borax? It's $4 for a 76 oz box at Smart and Final stores in LA, I cleaned out one store this weekend and will get the rest of my stash tomorrow.

    Sweet Spot for Solar GPM

For those of you who have solar panels, what's your ideal flow for max efficiency? Are you running your pump at a slow speed to maximize the time the water spends in the panels, or do you run it faster so the water isn't in the panels as long but is circulating more? I don't have a controller...

Solar cover vs. Solar Sun Discs/Sun Rings/Pool Disk

I was quite disappointed with my solar sun rings. They didn't do much heating, possibly some heat retention, and they also dropped tons of **** into the pool everytime I removed them. With 15 of them, it would have been far less hassle to just have a blanket with no reel.

    Keeping the pool warm

I bought the rings, optimistically hoping that they would be better than the negative reviews I had read portrayed them to be. I was wrong. Go with the solar blanket.

Variable Speed Pump, Controlllers, with Solar Heating

rvrboso, my setup is similar to yours. I'm running an IntelliFlo 3050 with no additional controller. When I want to run the Kreepy Krauly, I punch #2, and when I just want to filter and run the solar, it's on #1. I had to spend a little time (20-30 minutes) to get each setting to the minimum...

    High FC Comparator Block?

I passed by the paint counter at Lowes and pulled some yellow chips to bring home, but it's pretty hard to compare. I'm getting familiar with the shade of yellow that 10ppm gives me in the OTO, and I'm also getting a handle on how much bleach I need every day, so thanks for the reassurance...

    Green Egg

I've got a Kamado, which is essentially the same principle as the BGE. My advice to you, no-mas, is to not touch it while you're on vacation. Don't even look at it, pretend it's not there! You're just going to end up cooking things that taste amazing, and you'll then be wishing you had one of...

    High FC Comparator Block?

I'm keeping my FC around 10 this summer due to CYA of 90. I already drained once to bring it down from 200+, so I'll wait to do it again. Is there a place where I can buy a comparator block that measures FC levels that high? I already have the TF-100 kit, but I'd rather not use the FAS/DPD...

    Little Brown Dots

I have these little brown dots on the bottom of my pool. Any idea what they are? Maybe tannin stains? We get a lot of leaves dropping in the pool, but the Kreepy Krauly runs every day, so none of them stay very long. Most of them are in pairs, about as far apart as the width of my thumb...

Bad Bearings: Replace them, or the entire pump?

Wow, you guys are great! Thanks for all of the tips. Here are some answers to your questions: I'm not sure how old the pump is, but I know it's at least 5 years old as it was installed two owners ago. It appeared to be doing an adequate job so far. I thought the Kreepy Krauly could have...

Bad Bearings: Replace them, or the entire pump?

I just bought a house with a pool, and before I've even had the chance to stick anything other than my toes in it, I've got a problem! After the storms we had last week, I noticed my pump was making a different sound than it had the day before. Sure enough, there was some serious grinding...
