    Disposing old pool chemicals

Hello, I have some old bags of sodium bicarbonate that are hard as bricks, I'd like to get rid of them( not in the pool), but how do I safely dispose of these? I also have cal-hypo that needs to go, do I bring this stuff bAck to the pool store to have them dispose of it? Thank you for...

More to dislike about public pools

I would do both. Notify the health club and report it to the health dept.... chances are the health club is already aware of their water clarity situation, but are too concerned with other matters to tend to it. The health department should (and a good health inspector) will close the pool...

More to dislike about public pools

This is an absolute SHAME! As an operator, and director of numerous aquatic facilities, during every in-service, I remind my guards that if they cannot CLEARLY see the main drains(bottom of the pool) of the swimming pool, the pool is to be immediately closed. "If you cannot see the bottom...

    Soapy backwash water

Hello, Doing a backwash today at an indoor pool, the water coming from the backwash line was soapy-like bubbly soapy. It was definitely soap because I filled a bucket with the backwash water and it was soapy...pool is hazy. ONly chemicals added ever are: sodium hypochlorite, acid magic...

ORP readings vs. Free Chlorine readings

Hello, everyone, Reading about ORP on another thread brought up some of my own questions. First, what is the ideal ORP range for swimming pools? The WHO says that 650mV is suitable for drinking water, than why have I seen pools with ORP setpoints at around 525mV? ANd how would you...

    Combined Chlorine =1.5, how long...?

THank you, Jason. The pool has been sitting untouched since Friday, (I am not there nor is anyone else to check out the levels). I'm hoping that 3 days was enough to get rid of the chloramines, I guess I will find out tomorrow. Also, when using the FAS-DPD kit, should I be filing the sample...

    Combined Chlorine =1.5, how long...?

Hello, An indoor pool had a combined chlorine reading of 1.5. The pool is 11,730 gallons. I added 1 gallon & 1qt of liquid chlorine(12.5%) to it, to bring the level up to 15ppm. The FC before shock was 1.5ppm. Well, about 15min after adding the bleach, I tested the water and the...

    Indoor green tinged pool

THe ceiling of the pool area is white. The pool has cleared up a little bit today. Its 36,000 gallons, so, my guess maybe a day more or so. The green tint has lightened a bit as well. Thank you, everyone. :-)

    Indoor green tinged pool

Yes, the water is not a clear green, but a hazy green...but i can see the bottom of the dep end (4ft 10in). I'm going to let the pump and filter run all night and hope it works some magic. If it is in fact metals. Would it be best for me to nuetralize the FC to 0, and add a sequestering agent?

    Indoor green tinged pool

Hello, An indoor pool that has NO exposure to sunlight was drained, and refilled, but, the water has a greenish tinge to it. The pool's liner is white. Upon filling up, the first thing added to the pool was chlorine, and large amounts. THe water was not treated with metal out or ever...

Algae growing with sufficient FC levels

Today's readings: FC: 3.2 TC: 3.8 CC: .5 pH: 7.4 Alkalinity: 112 Calcium Hardness: 311 Cya: 0-its a commercial pool and NJ law states that you cannot use CYA in a public pool. I suspect poor circulation in these areas as well...there are no returns anywhere near where the algae is growing...
