What risks am I taking by not addressing low TA?

Crappy part is, Yes, I watched a video on YouTube that explained that adding baking soda and then calcium chloride will cause some kind of powder to precipitate out of the water. I increased TA yesterday and am still in the process of sourcing some calcium chloride. Leslie’s has it but the...

What risks am I taking by not addressing low TA?

Looks like to get my CSI in range, I need some more calcium hardness and a little more TA. I’m gonna get TA to 60 now and calcium hardness up to 350 by the weekend and that should help me get in better range.

What risks am I taking by not addressing low TA?

Thanks for the replies. I mean I’ve been running like this for a month now without any pH swings besides a slight creep upward over time. For the sake of playing it safe, I’m going to raise the TA to 50/60 and leave it at that. I’ll check the CSI and see if I have any reason to believe my...

What risks am I taking by not addressing low TA?

I add a little liquid chlorine to my pool everyday. I keep my numbers as follows: FC: 4 PH: 7.4 CYA: 30 TA: 40 I don’t have any issues, my pH never bounces and only creeps up if it goes in any direction. I need to add about 24oz of MA every 10 days or so to bring it down from 7.8 to 7.4...

    CYA Disappearing Act

Yea I would imagine the process takes multiple months with very low FC levels to actually work well. Usually an easier solution to just drain some and refill.

Best Places to Buy Liquid Chlorine

There seems to be plenty of the pool essentials 10% jugs everywhere at $4.63. Last year they were cheaper but much harder to find.

    Staining around drains at opening

I’m going to try to get down there this weekend and rub a chlorine tablet on the area. Thanks

    CYA Disappearing Act

I can’t argue with that fact. But I still feel like I had an easier time by cleaning the filter first. The less debris and waste there is coming in contact with the chlorinated water, the more free chlorine there will be to do wait you need it to do, whether it’s kill bacteria or react with...

    Staining around drains at opening

So I opened my pool last week. I believe the finish is some kind of quartz but I am unsure because the pool was refinished by the previous homeowners in 2017. When I opened, there was some debris/worms around the drains in the deep end and in the spa. I got the pool cleaned up, filter...

    CYA Disappearing Act

This helped me solve my issues last season at opening when every local pool professional was stumped. You’d be surprised how many never heard of the winterizing/ammonia connection. The only thing about that ammonia wiki that Id add is that cleaning the filter before starting the process is a...

    CYA Disappearing Act

I’m in bucks county. Had the problem bad last year but not so much this year. I just opened a few days ago, CYA was undetectable but the chlorine held no problem. When I opened in 2021, my chlorine would vanish almost immediately. Took me a total of like 12 gallons 12.5% to get it to start...

    Improved CYA sock method

I usually fill a bucket of water with hot tap water, dump in the stabilizer and mix it up. It won’t totally dissolve into the water but the hot water does seem to make it easier for the pool water to dissolve it. If the sun is strong that day I’ll let the bucket sit out in the sun too. Then I...

    CYA Disappearing Act

This. Is your FC holding? The bacteria or organic material (possibly ammonia) that burns up CYA usually crushes FC quickly. I’d try to SLAM the pool until you pass an overnight loss test and then get the CYA back to appropriate levels. I’d also consider checking around corners, crevices...

I’m in Bucks County PA. A 5 gallon drum of 12.5% liquid is now $28.99. (Not counting 6% Pa sales tax or deposit for the containers.) Last summer, it was $24.99.
