Yet another what heat pump should I buy question

Okay, next question on this. About how much, on average, have people paid to run 50 amps to for the heat pump? It's less than 50 feet from the breaker box, probably closer to 30 feet as they'll be running things through the attic as opposed to entirely along the side of the house. I've gotten...

Yet another what heat pump should I buy question

Thank you both for the input. For one, I know there is a local Aquacal rep, the other would be serviced by the pool company that did the installation. Either way, it sounds like I need to look into variable speed and then break down whichever would be the bet "bang for my buck."

Yet another what heat pump should I buy question

I've narrowed down to 2 heat pumps, hoping to get some input and thoughts on these. Both are similar in specs. Sunblazer is built by Aquacal and has a 7 year warranty, 2 on labor whereas Built Right is an independent company, 5 years warranty but covers labor and costs for any shipping for...

Any "gotchas" on replacing a burned out light?

I don't run it much at all, which is why I'm over Hayward. Their light didn't last 4 years, their pump didn't last 4 years, so I really don't want to throw my money in the trash with them. Unfortunately, it looks like all LED lights are overpriced and of the ones the vendor has provided, they...

Any "gotchas" on replacing a burned out light?

I went back and checked the email. He just mentioned he could get the Pentair LED light for the same price as the Hayward, so my assumption was that it was the Intellibrite 5G based on what I was able to research. I'm not sure if that helps at all or not.

Any "gotchas" on replacing a burned out light?

I'm beginning to notice this. The pool installer advised that I could replace with a Pentair since within 3 1/2 years both my Hayward pump and light both died out of warranty and I don't want to give them any more money for products that don't last. I decided to do some research on both...

Any "gotchas" on replacing a burned out light?

Well darn, I did some more digging and used my google-fu to confirm that it's a Hayward Universal ColorLogic, LPCUS11XXX. Unfortunately for me, it is a sealed unit so it's not just a matter of replacing the bulb. I also found out that this particular light is very overpriced and quite...

Any "gotchas" on replacing a burned out light?

The light in my pool has partially burned out after just 4 years of installation. I asked the pool installer the cost to replace and they quoted $900, which seems awfully high. It looks like I can do it myself for considerably less. My question is, is it really as simple as just unscrewing...

how hard is it to replace a pump, really?

Pump runs about 9 hours per day. As far as the settings, that is the question I've wondered. It is on a timer, I don't see any way to switch the speed of it. As far as the plumbing, I am hoping to just replace the motor in it.

    Determining heat pump size

So, looking at adding a heat pump to our pool. I'm in Florida, so it never gets below freezing but it sometimes dips as low as mid-30s once or twice per year. The pool is 8500 gallons in a narrow rectangular shape (7 feet wide at its narrowest), and I've gotten quotes of 4200 and 5000 for a...

how hard is it to replace a pump, really?

Okay, so our pool pump that is 4 years old died. Kaput. Seal leaked and water splashed back, so the motor ended up corroding out. I called the original pool manufacturer and they stated that to replace it would be $910 and then another company quoted me $1300, both of which seem excessively...

    Bad Capacitor?

I noticed this weekend that my Hayward Super II pump wasn't running during the normally scheduled time, so I took a look. When it comes "on" it hums for about 5 seconds and then shuts off. After researching, I noticed that I was advised to check both the impeller for free motion and if that's...

Layout Day Should Be Renamed Let Down Day!

Due to yard constraints my pool could only be 7' wide for most of it. I was worried it would be too small to use and even when they started it looked a little small. Of course, now I look and it is turned out great for the space. I think I was more concerned about "what the %#$# did I get...

    Breaking Ground Today! - Orlando

I just have to chime in and say that I think half the state of Florida is sick right now. I'm feeling like stir fried %#$# myself. In case no one told you, the bubblers on the end will make an awesome, relaxing gurgling sound. We have a couple on our sun shelf like what you have and they are...

It's beginning to look like a pool!

Thank you! I'm dying to get out there an enjoy it, but unfortunately we've been busy ever since it was installed and just got back from vacation. Sadly, this weekend the highs are in the 50s-60s before going back up to the 80s.
