Intex Filter problem - combating algae

Sorry for the late reply. That's the sort of thing, although we got ones on Ebay, 30 inches long for a lot cheaper. They have done a great job in filtering the pool all summer.

Intex Filter problem - combating algae

Personally I gave up on the Intex filters. I have both a 1500 gph and a 500 gph unit. For filtering performance they are both about as much use as a chocolate tea pot. I decided to use the 1500 gph unit simply as a fast pump and use a bio diesel filter bag to filter everything including algae...

A challenge - Solar heating for free?

Thanks for the suggestions. I took them all on board but unfortunately I failed in the challenge. I was so close to having free solar but the one sticking point I had was a pump. I couldn't find a pump for love or money. Originally I tried using the existing 500 gallon Intex pump but going...

    Pool cover--clamps, hooks

We ended up using a couple of packs of self adhesive velcro. We stuck the fuzzy side to the pool (in case the kids rubbed against it during a swim) by each leg and then stuck the 'hook' side on the pool cover. It worked a treat. If you have a solar cover with the bubbles then that would lie...

    Old solar heater leaking. Fixable?

Hi, If you think they are copper fittings then you will probably find that they are tradition 'nut and olive' unions. It may well be possible to cure the problem using an adjustable wrench. If you find that they still leak after they have been tightened then you may have to undo the nuts, clean...

A challenge - Solar heating for free?

Well it's OK for many of you good people, you are lucky enough to live in a climate where your pools warm nicely throughout the day :) But for me, being stuck in Blighty our pool is further north than all the US states except Alaska so the amount of solar benefit (even with a solar cover) is not...

    Floor Pad or not?? Type??

That phrase always puts a broad grin on my face :-D Seriously though, I have been thinking about pads too. Last year when I removed my AGP the smell of dead and rotting grass was enough to put the neighbours off us for life. It was a really stinky farm yard smell that lasted for weeks. I...

    Windows control panel

Another method (assuming you are using Windows) is to right click on the desktop, select NEW and then SHORTCUT. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Control.exe and then select it. That will give you a direct link to Control Panel.

    Bestway Sand Filter

Thanks for that SeaRay, That's the guys who are selling it on ebay. One thing I am not too sure about it that it circulates 800 gallons per hour. I can handle the thought of it circulating slower if that means that it would be able to cope with filtering out the aftermath of an algae bloom.

    Bestway Sand Filter

Hi All, Has anyone tried using Bestway Sand Filters and pumps? I have been trying to come up with a sensible cost effective solution to replace our Intex paper filter for next season so I started searching for different options and I came across This One As we have an Intex 16 x 48 AGP I...

    Maggots in Pool

It's difficult to tell how they got there or where they came from without a identification. It could have been fly maggots (indicates the possibility of a decomposing animal) but then it could have been larvae from insects that lay eggs in moist moist conditions which hatch in to larvae. If the...

Found critter in pool, do I need to shock?

Putting the issue in perspective, rats and many other critters regularly swim in our reservoirs, springs, wells, streams and other sources of drinking water which we only treat with a mild dose of chlorine. Although it may not be a good idea to mention that to sensitive types of people.

Getting out the Solar Cover...in August!!??

And i'm sitting here in a sweltering daytime temp of 64 degrees and a pool temp of a whopping 71 degrees. Pool cover? You're kidding. Our pool is wearing its solar cover, a blanket, a continental quilt and a set of wooly mittens :-D The family huddles around the pool at night to try and keep...
