When to buy new test reagents?

I bought a Taylor K-2006 test kit last year around June. Do I need to buy all new reagents for this year or will I be able to finish off what I had from last year? I did have to replace the DPD powder and the CYA testing solution but everything else is what I had from last year.

    Converting to BBB

I'm in NH too and I've never been happier that I bought a house this winter with a pool.

To backwash or not to backwash -- that is the question!

Don't you lose a ton of water when you vaccum to waste? I do'nt see the value in that but I'm just a newbie so I don't know much. I just backwashed my D.E. filter last night and it was amazing how much pressure I was getting at my returns. I didn't realize how bad I needed to backwash.

What to do with CC levels under 0.5

My CC level is testing at 0.2 this morning. Do I need to bring my chlorine level to a shock level? What I've read you don't need to shock unless your CC gets to 0.5 or above. Using my Taylor 2006 kit, I added the 5 drops for to test for CC and it showed a little pink. appears to only be...

    maintaining daily chlorine levels...

Thanks a lot everyone for the good advice. I think I'm going to pick myself up some bleach this week and start the BBB method. I think I've got a handle on what I need to do now. Oh yeah, woke up this morning to find my first critters in the pool. Two frogs hanging on my stairs and a dead...

    maintaining daily chlorine levels...

Maybe I actually don't understand the purpose of shocking. Anyone out there able to give me a good answer??? I guess I thought that once the chlorine level got too low you had to shock the pool to get it back up. Seems like all I need to do is just keep a consistent level of FC in my pool. I...

    maintaining daily chlorine levels...

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome. I've been lurking this site for the past month or so and like I said, I've learned a ton! Just a little background...... I bought a house this winter (east coaster) that included a 20x40 inground pool with a new vinyl liner, new Hayward D.E. Perflex filter...

    maintaining daily chlorine levels...

Is the BBB method something I can start a couple months after opening my pool or is it something you need to do from the beginning? I wish I knew about this site when I first opened my pool. I've learned a ton since then.

    maintaining daily chlorine levels...

I was told to only shock the pool once every two weeks or every week if it's been hot, rainy or the pool has been used a lot. My question is, what's the best way to maintain the chlorine level between shocks? Right now I'm using the 3" slow dissolving chlorine tabs (Trichlor) that the previous...
