Non-Poolcare related... Using TF-100 Calcium Hardness Test for Well Water

It's cold here in New York, pool is closed for the Winter. We are on well water and have been renting a water softening system for many years. The never-ending monthly payments have caused me to look at buying a new unit and installing myself. First thing I need to calculate is the hardness of...

Anyone here turn this obsession into a side business?

I think it is fair to say a good number of people on this forum, me included, have taken on an 'obsessed' attitude towards pool maintenance. :D I'm sure we've all had that situation where at a social gathering someone casually something about a swimming pool, and then before you know it you've...

Water lawn with 0 FC pool water?

Just wanted to update everyone about how things are going... Rather than mess with the pool pump, I went to Harbor Freight Tools and bought a utility pump for $80. Put one hose off the pump into the pool and another hose from the pump to a series of splitters with 8 garden hoses connected with...

Water lawn with 0 FC pool water?

ok, so from a chemistry standpoint it looks like it would be fine to do. BUT another question... My electric pump is pretty weak and I'm not getting enough water pressure to run a sprinkler with any kind of coverage. So... how about using the pool pump to feed the sprinklers? I could hook-up...

Water lawn with 0 FC pool water?

I'm in New York state, inground pool was winterized last Fall and is still covered. Will probably open in June. The water level has risen all the way to the pool deck. Just this past week we hydroseeded (grass) a large portion of our property in an attempt to expand our lawn. We only have one...

    Vinyl Inground Remodel Expectations

Yes, screeding is what I mean. It's good to know that screeding is not standard. When the pool was built over 25 years ago, it did have a very smooth finish on all surfaces. But maybe different materials were used back then? And the vertical walls are now perfectly straight and smooth. It is...

    Vinyl Inground Remodel Expectations

Just finished a full vinyl in-ground pool remodel. 16' x 32' rectangular with 9' deep end. Just got the in-pool LED lights hooked up and first thing I noticed when I turned them on tonight was how irregular the surface of the liner is on the bottom and sides of the pool. It is bumpy everywhere...

Which test is giving me the accurate FC reading?

This is my second season using the Taylor TF-100 kit + K-1000, so I'm pretty comfortable using it. The start of this season I got a full refill of everything, so all regents are brand new. I also had a pool store test the water, and I have two different brands of test strips that are also brand...

CYA Level Raised More than Planned

Went to the pool store this morning and had my water tested. They get CYA reading of 43 ppm. So that falls right in line with what I added. That kit test with the black dot in the bottom of the tube was giving my reading this morning somewhere between 70 and 90. Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

CYA Level Raised More than Planned

We just had our pool remodel finished last week. New vinyl liner and had water trucked in. Tested using my kit at home the other day and had CYA = 0. Pool stored tested it as well and said CYA= 2ppm. So I went to Wally World and bought Stabalizer/Conditioner, brand HTH. Says it is 96% CYA. I...

    Remodel Liner Question

Yev That is another pattern we are considering. In fact, that is the one we would go with if we want to make sure our pool always looks blue, no matter what the weather and surroundings. Do you have any pictures of your pool on a sunny day you could post? How did the mosaic work out as far as...

    Remodel Liner Question

We are remodeling a 20 year old vinyl pool. We are trying to achieve this kind of water color. Our pool is in direct sunlight, hardly any shade around it. Out of the liner choices our pool builder has supplied us, we think this is the only one that may be close: To my eyes it has a...

    Inground Vinyl Remodel Questions/Advice

Thanks for all the feedback guys! I'll have to ask around for some quotes on a SWG from some other local places and see what they charge. Although I do not know the brand/model I was initially quoted. Dave, that blue liner looks great! Actually, your whole yard looks awesome. For stamped...

    Inground Vinyl Remodel Questions/Advice

We have a pool that is a 16' x 32' inground with vinyl liner. The pool was installed about 25 years ago, the liner was replaced at least 10 years ago probably before then. Vertical walls are poured concrete, then the slanted walls and floor is I would guess compacted sand. Here is what we are...

Stuck in a loop: Metal Stains, AA Treatment, Cloudy, Metal Stains!

Thank you!!! I used Metal Magic this week. I only used 1/2 dose (1 bottle in my 20k gallon pool). It worked great! It totally cleared the metal stains and there was no cloudy water at all. And only $16 per bottle. I'm sold on this stuff!
