Opening Pool - low flow on filter/pump

Both strainer baskets are empty. Since I was opening the pool, the baskets were in the house - all clean. Opened both plumbing values as well. Took off all the plugs to the return and suction sides... This morning I fooled with the filter some more and I think it might be what Zea said - the...

Opening Pool - low flow on filter/pump

Opened the pool this evening and it didn't go so well. When I tried backwashing the filter, the flow out was very low. I then switched it to "waste", same thing. Back to backwashing and finally got a good flow out. Moved it to filter and it didn't seem to be pulling much water. I am not...

    What's your current pool temp?

We freeze bleach bottles and throw a few in the pool when the kids are playing. Probably doesn't low the temperature any, but it feels good when you play with the cold water from the bleach bottles:) They take longer to melt than just a big block of ice.

    What's your current pool temp?

We are burning up down here in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 93 this afternoon! That is the water temperature! I put a fountain on yesterday, but so far, it hasn't helped much...

12% chlorine prices around the country

I'm in NE Oklahoma. It is hard to find 12% liquid chlorine anyway. THe pool stores don't carry it. I did find 1 gallon size at Atwoods, but for $5.99! Crazy. I am using Walmart's 6% (1.42gallon) for 2.54 right now.

WalMart Ultra Bleach - $2.54 now

I usually go to Aldi's They have Tundra (their brand) 96 oz for $1.29. The sad part is last summer, it was 96oz for .99 cents.

    What's your current pool temp?

I don't know our exact temperature, but it is hot! Our neighbors pool says 93. What are the methods for lowering the temp? I know you can drain some out and refill, but what else? I have a fountain. Should I run the pump during the day for the fountain or is night better? I wonder how much...

    Testing PH during shock

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping the ph test was just inaccurate with the high chlorine. I just upped the chlorine to 20 a few minutes ago. I will bring it up to 20 - 25 tomorrow morning. Thanks:)

    Testing PH during shock

I just opened my pool today - slightly green. I shocked it to 16 and then tested the ph. The PH was way too high 8.2. Does the high chlorine level make the ph temporarily high? I tested the ph a few weeks ago before I took the cover off, and it was 7.6. What would cause my ph to go up so...

Is there a cover for the big suck hole in the side of pool

I have this same type of sucky hole:) I bought a grid type of cover for it for safety reasons. But, I didn't want to turn it off since I don't have a main drain. That hole and the skimmer are the only suctions I have. For pool circulation, I thought having both of them with suction would be...

turning on pump when lines are empty

Thank you. I hated to ask such simple questions, but this is the first time I am opening the pool! After some try and error, we finally got it all figured out and got the pump on and pumping away! Thanks again.

turning on pump when lines are empty

I am wanting to open the pool today. Since the pool pump and filter is empty of water, do I just turn it and wait for the water to come from the pool lines? How long should this take? I don't see any air release value at the top of the filter so what happens to all the air when I turn the...

When to open the pool vs just turning on the pump.

Thanks. That is kind of what I was thinking. I don't see any reason to run the pump with the cover on, but I was wondering if I was missing an obvious reason. It does make since to go ahead and turn on the pump a day before to make sure the water is circulated and to make sure everything is...

When to open the pool vs just turning on the pump.

Last year, we had a pool maintenance guy open our pool. He came in March and turned on the pump, but left the cover on. Then, he didn't come back until mid May to take the cover off. This year, we are opening the pool ourselves. It has been so cold this spring, there is no thoughts of...

    Winter Chemicals

Thanks for the info. I guess I won't worry about putting chlorine in during the winter. But, does the water get algae in it or anything during the winter?
