New Owner of a 2nd hand spa - chlorine use seems high

Just checked my FC levels. At 12pm I added 1 tablespoon. That brought it up to 6 ppm. I measured at 9pm and it was at 4 ppm. That seems inline with what you guys have said, at least about bumping it to 10 ppm to get through the next day.

New Owner of a 2nd hand spa - chlorine use seems high

To follow up: my CYA level is almost non-existent. My tube goes to 20, and while it was a bit cloudy, I could still see the dot. This is my first time using chlorine in a hot tub. I had an in ground propane heated standalone hot tub before that was using bromine. Since I only heated it...

New Owner of a 2nd hand spa - chlorine use seems high

I got to reading more about chlorine levels and temps and think maybe me keeping mine at 102F 24x7 has a lot to do with my chlorine usage?

New Owner of a 2nd hand spa - chlorine use seems high

I just refilled this about a week ago and haven't tested the CYA which I figure should be minimal based on only using a tablespoon of Dichlor each day. The spa cover remains on it throughout the day so the water is not in the sun. I measured the FC after 1 tablespoon and it was 3ppm. Then...

New Owner of a 2nd hand spa - chlorine use seems high

Hey All, long time pool owner who uses mainly liquid chlorine and pucks only when I need to get my CA levels back up. I recently acquired a 2nd hand spa. It's Master Spa Legend Series, 410 gallon. The previous owner had been using bromine. When I read the manual, Master Spa seems to prefer...

How long does a typical SLAM take?

A quick update, my SLAM ended up taking 3 days. My OCLT on the last night was around 0.5ppm. That was from 11pm to 8am. My UV light is hardwired into the system and doesn't have a separate on/off switch. The only thing that controls it is a flow switch. But I guess my OCLT results show it...

How long does a typical SLAM take?

I had messed around with salt water when I had my above ground pool. I got tired of having to clean the plates and then replace them repeatedly. Before we replaced it, I had moved back to an all chlorine pool. We stone work around the inground pool and didn't want to mess with cleaning the...

How long does a typical SLAM take?

Hi all, I haven't been on the forums in a while. I used to do the TFP method on my above ground pool, but then my wife talked me into getting an inground pool installed. I insisted that we get whatever equipment would make it maintenance free for me...or at least as close as can be. So...

    Pool pump replacement blues

    Pool pump replacement blues

Hi all, I've got a 15k gallon above ground pool with a saltwater chlorinator and a robot sweeper. My pump, a Power-flo Matrix 1hp 2 speed gave up the ghost today. I was shopping around and gleaning all the information I could about pump technology and was pretty interested in the variable...

    Hayward EC50AC fingers

Hi All, I've got a Hayward EC50AC DE filter that is on it's 3rd season. Has worked great until I got the bright idea to do a tear down and clean on it. This season it's been putting a bunch of cloudy water back into the pool after a bump. It works great the rest of the time, but every time...

    Inline filter for vaccuming

I'm one of *those* guys that lets the pool go to well....you know what in a hand basket over the winter. I dumped 4 gallons of 8.25% bleach in the pool a couple of days ago and it's killed just about all the algae. It's very thick on the bottom. If I vacuum to waste, I'm pretty sure I won't...
