We have a 40,000 gallon gunite pool that is in need of desperate help! We bought our house 2 years ago knowing that we had some serious work ahead of us, and now that true reality is setting in! All of the coping needs to be replaced, the tiles need to be redone and the gunite needs to be...

What is that in my pool???

Well like magic the soapy bubbles are gone this morning. We left the pump off yesterday and turned it on last night and nothing has formed. Still some air but that's it. I'm telling you that pool has a mind all its own!

What is that in my pool???

We haven't put any algaecide in the pool. We use a reagent test kit, but it doesn't test CYA. Only TC, FC, CC, PH, Alka. This morning we turned the pump off and let the pool sit. All of the soapy bubbles are gone. It is something with the few bubbles the jet is blowing coupled with hitting...

What is that in my pool???

The pool is huge and we love it.....when it is behaving! It needs a lot of remodeling and TLC. We've only been in the house for a year and a half and already sunk a ton of money into it last summer when a pipe completely ruptured and caused our neighbors yard to be flooded! Someday it will be...

What is that in my pool???

We have a 40,000 gallon gunite pool with a sand filter. We just treat with bleach as we don't have an automatic chlorinator. A few weeks ago our alkalinity was 180 so we added some muratic acid. That's really it. Not much going in there. FC Chlorine 3+ PH 7.2 Alkalinity 110

What is that in my pool???

We finally have a sparkling pool after a long battle with algae. The water is crystal clear and we were finally enjoying our pool! We came home yesterday from work to find "soapy looking" bubbles all over the pool. We have some air in our lines and need to have some pipes replaced (next year)...

    Chlorine Tabs

Interesting to hear that you don't use the tabs anymore. We have a 40,000 gallon gunite pool that does not have an automatic chlorinator so we use the bobbers. Our chlorine levels are never right and we just went thru a bout of algae. So my husband and I have joined this forum to try and...

    Extremely Cloudy - Algae Expected

well it looks like our chlorine held over night. We still only have the tester that goes to 5 ppm, but the color last night was very dark orange and it was the same this morning. Should we just wait and test the water in a few hours to see if there is any change before adding more bleach??

    Extremely Cloudy - Algae Expected

We actually have a container of Leslie's alum at home. I am 70% sure the algae is dead or almost dead. I don't see any signs of it on the walls or what little I can see of the bottom. I am planning on adding my bleach tonight, tomorrow morning, tomorrow afternoon and evening. And then trying...

    Extremely Cloudy - Algae Expected

A couple more questions - don't hate the newbie!!! :-D JasonLion states 6 1/2 gallons of 6% chlorine will bring FC up by 10ppm - at this point what should my free chlorine goal be? You also mention a flock treatment. What is this? Thank you soooo much for your help. I will try and get...

    Extremely Cloudy - Algae Expected

We were having vacuum problems and weren't able to vacuum or pool for several weeks. We thought there was simply dirt accumulating on the bottom. Well once the vacuum was fixed, I quickly realized this was algae not dirt! We are first year pool owners and thought we were doing a good job of...

    Deck Repair Options

There are lots of different overlays you can look at depending on how "in shape" your concrete is...a product we have been looking at is called pebble-flex..its a rubberized material that goes over your existing deck and will move with the concrete so it won't ever crack, it is also non-slick...

    leak in return line

    leak in return line

Moved over the winter to a house with a 40,000 gallon gunite pool..went to open the pool for the first time last week and discovered a pretty big leak. based on paperwork we have from the previous owner and in talking with the company that closed the pool last year, there was a leak in the...
