    Disappearing Shock

I just made a discovery. The bottle of shock I just reached for is 627 days old. Maybe this has something to do with my problem.

    Disappearing Shock

Thank you, RDspaguy. I just checked it and it is about 1.25. I will shock it and leave it alone to drop naturally. I have never added more bromide than at each new fill in 6 years so that spooks me a bit. I will add more bromide in a week if this does not work. I usually go 6 months or...

    Disappearing Shock

Good Morning, All and I hope everyone is doing very well. I have an interesting issue that I have never experienced before in my hot tub. Usually, after each tubbing, I add 1 ounce to 1.5 ounces of 12% liquid shock and all is fine at the next days readings. This is a bromine tub, no floatie...

Will not open pool this year...advice please

Good Day, All. My neighbor broke her arm in May and decided not to open her pool this year. We still have the cover on, have put mosquito dunks in the water on the cover and in the buckets holding the cover down. There are tadpoles growing in a couple of the buckets which I am gently...

    Liquid chlorine prices up?

12.5% is a hard commodity around RI. Job Lot has (gasp) old stock pool shock dated June 7th, 2019 at same old prices, all you can find. I will do a test tomorrow to see how degraded it actually is. What bleach there is in the stores is that Chloromax, lemon scented or splashless...

No more bromine tablets and here's the results

Update on not putting 1 oz of 12.5 bleach in every night. The water got a tiny bit cloudy. I added a couple of Tablespoons of bleach and that cleared it right up. The next night I checked the PH and it was 4.3. I have never had pH that low in my life. What happened? I added pH up and got...

No more bromine tablets and here's the results

Hi Tim, I was not clear, I am so sorry. I have always used bromine in my tub. I got to the point previously, where no matter what I did, it was always cloudy. I got tired of that and was advised that the floating bromine tabs were not helping my issue. I ditched the floaty. I read your...

No more bromine tablets and here's the results

Hi Tim, I am using the Bromine test kit and I do start out with the Sodium Bromide. I did not think CYA was an issue with a bromine spa. I will go read your suggestions. Thank you.

No more bromine tablets and here's the results

Good Morning, All. I wanted to report back with the status of my hot tub. I stopped using the bromine tablets altogether. Now, I finally got around to draining/refilling the tub yesterday. I dutifully used the Ahhsome protocol. I have to say there was no green foam, there was not a speck of...

    New pump and a question

Thank you all. I ended up using a couple of hand towels. I tried the potato idea but by the time I could craft it into something fully functional, the towels were quicker and worked great. I learned quickly to NOT install the hose clamps in place before tightening the hose ends on. Two pretty...

    New pump and a question

Good Evening everyone. I am replacing an above ground pool pump on a 24'x 48" pool tomorrow for a neighbor and she does not have any type of pool plugs. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to stop the water from escaping the pool from the skimmer port and the return port? Thanks in advance.

Chlorine Tablets contain copper!!! Now what?

This was a bucket purchased from a Pool Store. The the additives are to prevent algae and to ensure clear water. I will take a pic of the bucket and post. I realize the importance of the liquid chlorine. I use it in my pool and spa, but for this pool, it is not a reality. Tabs have to be...

Chlorine Tablets contain copper!!! Now what?

Thank you all, for your responses. I will see about returning the bucket. I would not know what the copper will do and we are not going to test the water for it nor purchase sequesterant. Tough lesson for the pool owner, $75 going down the rat hole if they do not take it back.
