My CYA is high (100 ppm), calculator tells me to replace 50% of the water. How much can I safely drain? Do I need to use a vacuum when the water level is below the skimmer? Can the water be replaced a little at a time?

usually you only have to pour footings to a depth below the frost line to prevent "heaving." So I do not think you have that problem in a warm climate.

I do not understand why they used a flex pipe to start with, unless that was the easier and cheaper way. If the builder will not fix for free, which they should, then it looks to be an easy fix.

Good common sense to wait for drier ground to dig in. Less mud and need to pump out the ground water.

I don't think it will make any difference as long as its out of sight and level. You will want to consider the humming noise a pump makes also.

Is it safe to use DE in a sand filter? If so, how do you add it, how much and where do you get it besides a pool store? Is it effective? Will it really aid in spring start up?
