PH test, do I need my eyes adjusted?

Despite what I think is a cool trick (block close to eye), I ordered a Ph meter from TFT, too...

PH test, do I need my eyes adjusted?

That's a cool trick. I'll try it. Here's what I do: Bring the test cell right up to my eye, letting my vision "blur". I hold a white card several inches behind this with the other hand, tilting it to light it well. I look through the test cell at the white card (everything's blurry), then...

    Silly Speedstir question

I avoid putting the tested water and reagents back into the pool- whatever we put in there tends to stay for a very long time. Consequently, longitudinal accumulation and exposure seems like a reasonable consideration. I don't know the impact of ingestion and/or skin absorption and/or mucous...

Opening Pool - Very High Free Chlorine

That's what is generally suggested. I think it applies more to filter heads with non-glued gaskets. That said, I generally do it, when I remember, even though mine is permanently attached.

Opening Pool - Very High Free Chlorine

Yeah, the spider assembly is the spoked gasket and it's backing plate. This plate is what is attached to the filter head handle, and allows for the various modes on the filter. On my filter head, the spider gasket and backing plate are glued together at the factory, but many, if not most, allow...

Opening Pool - Very High Free Chlorine

OP, consider taking your filter head apart and examine the gaskets and parts. Last year, my pool wouldn't clear. I took the head apart, and found that a rodent had apparently gotten up the back-wash line and gnawed at the spider assembly. Consequently, some water was able to bypass the filter...

Begin spring SLAM with safety cover on?

Thanks for posting! I definitely need to slam-- it's a swamp after winter with only the (mesh) safety cover and no chlorine or algecide since last October. (I'm in mid-Michigan, west coast, so our pool season is just starting). CYA should be around 30, estimating from last year's measurement...

Begin spring SLAM with safety cover on?

Hi all, I'd like to get my in-ground 20000 gallon pool started up. However, the maples are dropping oodles of 'helicopters' and the oaks are dropping their 'tassels'. I'm talking massive numbers of these things, enough that it'd be tough to keep the skimmer basket clear enough while the filter...

Gazebo over spa (no sun) = no need for CYA?

Thanks for the info! I'll get some CYA into the water after I refill. Interesting graph-- it also appears to illustrate why we need higher chlorine concentrations in the solution as CYA goes up, and that bacteria and algae don't die off at the same saturation. Cool stuff. Thanks!

Gazebo over spa (no sun) = no need for CYA?

Hi all, This is my second post, I'm new to TFP. I have a TF100 that I use for my pool, but I haven't yet tested my spa water because I was using dichlor and the CYA is very high. I'll do a drain and refill soon. (While I've used the TF100 CYA test for my pool, I'm basing my high CYA level in...

    CYA test difficulties

Hi all, I'm new to the forum. This is my first post. I just got my TF-100 test kit. As you probably know, the test kit comes with a sample of 50ppm CYA water, to help the new tester understand the test. I followed the directions for the test as printed. Because the provided sample is known to...
