The pool was installed by previous owners about 7-8 years ago. The chalking will look yellowish?

It just wipes off with my finger...that's what threw me off. I thought iron would have needed a vitamin c treatment. I have a frog system for my pool. And the culprit of the steady rise in my CYA.

It seems to be something on the surface of the stairs because when I wipe it away the stairs go back to being white and the integrity of the pebbled pattern on the stairs is retained. There doesn't appear to be any wear of the stairs.
