I rented a sump pump from Home Depot for $45 for 24 hours, which included 50 ft of hose (they'd give more for free if you needed it). I emptied 30K gallons in way less time than 24 hours, and ran the hose directly into the sewer line.

Would you just set them on the stains and leave them until they dissolve? Tried rubbing a broken tablet on a few stains and didn't really work.

Ok so I had the idea that while the pool was mostly drained I could go to work on some of the rust stains while they were easily accessible....maybe not such a good idea. Scrubbed the spots while no water was on them, which turned the rust to a fine dust and dulled the stained spots. Yay right...

Nope, added enough CYA to get to 20 while simultaneously reaching shock level at 20 CYA.

Thanks Northrn. Singingpond, I drained all but 1500 gallons or so, so for all intensive purposes, starting from scratch. Your logic on the larger the pool and longer the fill, the more chance of algae seems sound, I can add as I go.
