is it possible to replace the light niche flange (or liner sealing ring, the one with 10 holes) without draining, or do i need to drain below it before i take it apart? also, do i need to replace the gasket behind it when i do?

i think its possible to repair torn grids, but its probably easier to just replace. as for the manifold, if it is indeed cracked, you will have to get a new one.

if you have white coming out of the returns, your filter is likely damaged. either the grids are torn and/or the manifold is cracked.

I have an ancient legend, came with the pool. It still works darn good, picks up a good bit of stuff. The only problem i have is it doesn't reach the shallow end very well, but i assume that is due to the age. I believe one of the wheel gears is not making good connections (stripped, warped)...

ditto. absolutely tiny crack in manifold will spit out all of your DE in a matter of a half-day.
