    Need new cleaner

We have had to make lots of repairs to our Polaris 380, as it's 10 years old and expected I guess. Now we have a leak we can't seem to get fixed to the booster pump, and that is adding to the inability of the Polaris to really clean the pool well. So...thinking about getting a robot. We are...

    Berm or no Berm

Do yourself a favor...no pea gravel. Ever. I regret the day I decided "no, the bigger rocks are way more expensive, lets just use pea gravel".

Would freezing temps cause filter pressure to be high?

I'm not really sure. Don't want to stick my hands in the pool to feel the return! I guess I need to though, to determine if there is a problem with the pressure side of the system, or a problem with the gauge. I was just wondering if a filter could become "frozen" and that would explain the...

Would freezing temps cause filter pressure to be high?

Yes, when off, it drops to zero, and when pump is on low, it drops to about 5 (usually reads 1-2psi on low).

Would freezing temps cause filter pressure to be high?

Here in SC we have had about 2 weeks of freezing temps. Most days it gets into the mid 30's to mid 40's. My pool filter usually reads about 17 psi normally when pump is on high. I have been running pump on high 24/7 to prevent any freezing in my lines, but I've just noticed 2 days ago (don't...

    Edging ideas for pool decking

Don't do what we did. We have about 3 feet of landscaping around our pool deck, and mulched with PEA GRAVEL. I hate that stuff. It ends up on the pool deck and we step on it (Ouch!) or it ends up in the pool. And we have a liner! I wish we had spent the extra money for the bigger rocks that...

    Polaris 380 housing loose

It is one big molded piece. When the housing is not seated properly in the front, water shoots out of the housing, so it doesn't pick up debris. I'll see if I can get a picture of it.

    Polaris 380 housing loose

The blue housing of my Polaris 380 is slightly loose in the front, and it won't clean the pool. I've looked at it (sort of, it's cold out there), and I can't figure out why the housing won't stay seated in the front of the unit. I'm assuming that this is the reason it won't pick up leaves. I...

Run backwash hose back into pool

An update...Got the multiport valve fixed this morning! It didn't even need a new gasket, the handle just needed to be lubed with some WD-40 so it would move properly and seat itself. I watched the repair guy do the whole thing, and it was so easy! He showed me how to replace the gasket...

Help with multiport valve and spider gasket

I just wanted to let you know that your instructions were spot on! Finally got the repair guy to come out this morning, and I watched him do the whole thing. It turned out I didn't even need a new gasket, the handle was just stuck and needed to be lubed. The repair guy removed the bolts, and...

    undissolved cal hypo

I use chlorine tabs (trichlor) in an autochlorinator sometimes to increase my CYA or chlorinate while I'm on vacation. I think I read somewhere that I shouldn't put cal hypo in the skimmer, because there is a risk that some of it will get to the autochlorinator where there may be traces of...

Run backwash hose back into pool

I know I could most likely fix this myself, but I just don't have the confidence! So I'm going to watch the person I hired to do this, so that when it happens again, I will do it myself!

Run backwash hose back into pool

OK, before you think I'm nuts (why would anyone want to backwash INTO the pool), I am awaiting a repair to my multiport valve, and cannot run my pump on any valve setting, because water keeps coming out of my backwash hose. Is there any reason I can't continue to run my pump on FILTER, and...

Help with multiport valve and spider gasket

Well, here's an update for you...tried to backwash the filter this morning, and when I put the valve back in the filter position, water still comes out. I've tried for 15 minutes, moving it around to make sure it was "seated" properly...no luck. Sometimes the handle won't even stay up, so I...

Help with multiport valve and spider gasket

Before I call a repair person, I like to have an idea about what something costs to repair. Being a woman, I just want to make sure the repair person does not take advantage of me because they "think" I know nothing about the pool! Truth is, I'm the only one in my house that knows anything...
