It spurts a bit when I turn the filter back on but then flows smooth. Pump basket looks good, smooth water not bubbles whipping around.

Thank-you Pysiek but I think you are referencing a different Hayward filter called Perplex. The Hayward 6020 doesn't have diaphragm gasket etc. - - - Updated - - - p.s Filter gage is 18 psi.
