shock the heck out of it and add some de in the skimmer- just watch your filter pressure. When I do the de thing, I watch it close and then instead of a total backwash, I just bw for about 30 seconds to "bump it" and then reassess.

your cya is already 60 - that's plenty- bleach is cheaper at this point- watch your calcite index, too.

I think that the effect would be only temporary as the co2 that turns to carbonic acid would eventually outgas over a few hours- just a guess though

We got a new liner this year (so brand new poolful of virgin water) and we had a LOT of trichlor tablets (yah- the old hockey pucks we all hate). Anyway, instead of adding a lot of stabalizer and then using bleach and wasting the trichlor, we just kept using trichlor until the CYA came up to 50...

we've had a busted diaper in the pool before- it's a holy mess to clean up. Could be calcium, too.
