In the main page, it says there are thousands of threads in a given subject but I'm not seeing more than a few. Is this a setting I have to change or had a lot of content gone missing?

Bought house, pool just turned green in a week

One other question about the calcium hardness. I couldn't get a reading on that. Is that a bad sign ? Not sure what role that plays.

Bought house, pool just turned green in a week

Cool thank you so much for all this help. When you say drain the pool, do you mean fully drain it? Or just take it down a foot or two at a time and refill it with a hose and continue testing? I can't believe I thought I was buying such a great pool and it's two weeks in and it's nightmare city!

Bought house, pool just turned green in a week

Is it weird he was able to keep the pool so crystal clear with such high cya? If I'm reading everything on the site correctly, cya is basically the leftover residue from chlorine tablets? So it would make sense it's this high if they've been using this type of chlorine for years, if not decades...

    New to maintaining hot tub

Yikes, this is definitely in the dark orange range. My wife was just so excited to use the hot tub for the first time and I told her she better not. I assume that much chlorine would be bad to soak in, right?

Bought house, pool just turned green in a week

Thanks for the responses. Pool temp is 70. Good question on whether or not I'll get a service but would like to at least give this a try. They don't want to close it If it's nasty and nether do I. Is there a way to lower my CYA directly or will that only happen as I treat the rest of the...

    New to maintaining hot tub

Posted about my pool in another thread but also have a stand-alone hot tub. Old owner told me he would just add some magic solution that kept it good for a couple months at a time. But I tested the water with a hth strip and there was no chlorine at all. I found a bottle of spa shock in the shed...

Bought house, pool just turned green in a week

I've owned a pool in the past but had a service take care of it. Just moved to a house in NJ with a Sylvan concrete pool, About 20 years old. Got two inspections before buying the house and it got a clean bill of health. Water was crystal clear when we moved in two weeks ago. I expected to close...

Is this heater on fire? (New pool owner here)

Got the tube cleaned professionally. The heater is a raypack p-r405b-en Now it won't light. At closing last year it got a new heat exchanger , igniter and UG. Now both my pool guy and the pool place that changed the exchanger think it's a bad board. One quoted me 550-600 and the other "around...

Is this heater on fire? (New pool owner here)

I just found the invoice for work the previous owners did during the house closing in the spring. It looks like the pool company in town replaced the heat exchanger and igniter and something else I can't read (maybe U/B or BUG). The bill was $1800. I can't imagine anything changing between...

Is this heater on fire? (New pool owner here)

Thanks for all the feedback. I'm very new to all this and do not feel comfortable trying it myself (and my wife forbid me from trying). Glad I got such a definitive answer and know that I shouldn't run it until fixed. The previous owners had to get it serviced before closing on the house because...

Is this heater on fire? (New pool owner here)

I just bought a house with a in-ground pool and all new to this. Had it opened this week and Raypac heater would ignite, just stuck at SPK. Guy said he would service at another appointment because it was likely the gas valve stuck and should fix itself if I keep trying. Today it actually fired...
