Copper staining -- need advice on removal

One final update: We applied the ascorbic acid over the weekend with success! There’s still one patch where there is a stain but I will spot treat that. Overall it looks much better! I added a sequestering agent after the AA and will give it a good backwash today. Will be monitoring my levels...

Copper staining -- need advice on removal

Interesting observations, thanks James. We have had wrinkles in the liner for the past three years but they have gotten worse over time. Thankfully we don’t have anything torn or popped out from the top, but I have been keeping a close eye on things. I’m not ready to replace a liner yet, but...

Copper staining -- need advice on removal

I have noticed reddish brown stains in our toilet before, but honestly in the 19 years we have had this pool I have never once had an issue with iron staining the liner. We use the same water source (hose from our house) every year for filling it. Just a little more backstory to help fill in...

Copper staining -- need advice on removal

UPDATE: Vitamin C tabs worked! Here’s a before and after when I rubbed a tablet against the liner. It came right off! I have the bottle of ascorbic acid from Leslie’s sitting here now. Would it be safe to add it, or is it recommended checking for other metals with Jack’s Magic first?

And to add I don’t have a heater or anything other new equipment that would potentially be a source of copper.

Copper staining -- need advice on removal

Oops sorry. I am in the suburbs of St. Louis with city water. Wouldn’t be a problem to drain and refill but only if it makes sense. Will update my locale.

Copper staining -- need advice on removal

OK, my husband is stopping to get Vitamin C tabs on the way home and we will do a spot test. I will drop one in and see if it affects the liner. I'll report back on the results. My FC is 17 right now, which is on the higher end, so I guess we should be good for swimming! I will start to read...

Copper staining -- need advice on removal

OK, I will hold off on the acsorbic acid. I have to run to the drug store anyway, so I will pick up some vitamin C tabs just to test that first. The PH and TA were very low when we first opened the pool. I'm sorry, I don't have those numbers on me anymore, but they were below the normal range...

Copper staining -- need advice on removal

Hi all, I made the big mistake of adding some Clorox Xtra Blue granular shock to my pool which I believe has contributed to raised copper level in my pool and staining all over my vinyl liner. Lesson learned! Here are my test results, using TF-100 FC 17 TC .5 PH 7.4 TA 80 CH 40 CYA 117...

Water turns green after adding chlorine

No heater, and I believe all of my piping is PVC. Well, at least everything I can see is. Not sure what's underground, but I am sure it is pvc, too. I am going back to the light fixture that is corroded. You guys think that might be the culprit?

Water turns green after adding chlorine

Oh, I forgot to add, I think we might have added some algecide at the end of the year, but it is the Pooltrine 60 brand. (Polyethylene dichloride) I don't believe it has copper in it.

Water turns green after adding chlorine

I use city water -- will go and see what information I can find, thanks! I've been using city water to fill my pool for years, though, so I am scratching my head that I suddenly have this problem. (About half of it gets drained every year when we close, and then filled with fresh in the spring.)...

Water turns green after adding chlorine

Hi all ... I have been doing BBB for several years now with great success. This is the first year I've run into this kind of problem and am seeking a little help. My pool water is crystal clear, but when I add bleach (using the regular household 6% variety) my water turns a nice shade of green...

    Pool ladder grips?

Thanks, great idea! Why didn't I think of that? I really don't need pretty, just functional!
