Here is what we have….dead or alive algae?

Update: we’re at the end of day 13. After still seeing no improvement, we decided last night to let our FC come down, rebalance chemicals, and try something else. Chlorine alone is CLEARLY not working. Today (less than 24 hours) our FC is down to 21.5 and the algae has increased significantly...

So should we let the FC go down? Even though I can still see algae growth? I don’t understand how algae can continue to grow when our FC has been so high for 11 days….

We have been at MA level for 48 hours now. I brushed the pool about 90 minutes and there are already spots grown back (two spots in attached pic). We removed steps and lights and have not replaced yet. We did put all toys in for a couple hours the first day at MA level.

I wanted to update our experience. We are now on day 11 of battling this. Although we passed the OCLT the first two nights (as described above), I figured out that I needed to start brushing every couple hours every day long and we quickly lost chlorine during the day and overnight. We now...

There is no debris, just the yellow/tan powdery substance on the bottom of the pool (which we are assuming is mustard algae). When brushed it dissipates into the water. I just retested and the FC had dropped a little, so I added more liquid chlorine to take it back to MA Shock level (30).

Any advice is much appreciated. We passed the OCLT again last. I brushed to dissipate all the particles early this morning, and again two hours later since they had reaccumulated. I also cleaned my filter cartridge. The chemistry seems to be saying it’s not algae, but everything we see seems...
