Another Mustard Algae vs Pollen Thread...Sorry

Hi. I live in Central NJ as well. Again, I'm baffled as to whether certain "substances" on the liner are dirt/pollen or algae, too. I keep the FC on the high side because I have a high CYA level (around 80) from past inexperience with chlorine methods. After this season I plan to partially drain...

Got my TFT-100 test kit and I've been testing...

I received my TFT-100 test kit recently, too. I really love how I have so much control over my chem levels now. I just find it hard to believe how people kept pools maintained in years past by throwing in a couple pucks of chlorine and testing pH once in a while.

    Bonding Pool Water

In NJ it is electrical code that the pool must be bonded in certain places. According to the NEC 2008, 680.26(C) Pool water. Pool water shall have an electrical connection to one or more of bonded parts described in 680.26(B).where none of the bonded parts is in direct connection with the pool...

    Testimonials

I joined TPP just a short time ago. I had an inground pool as a child, but dear old dad took care of most of the stuff and I just watched and helped whenever possible. Skip ahead about 20 years and here I am as a homeowner, mother of 2 and new AG pool owner. Hubby and I were given no real...

    Algae returning on liner

Hi, I'm in Central Jersey, too. Yesterday just after I posted that my pool was all clear, I noticed what appeared to be powdery algae on some of the portions of the pool, mostly right at the curve where the walls meet the bottom of the liner. I proceeded to kick it up with my feet while walking...

    First Pool -- Very Frustrated

Pic of Pool Here's the pool. It's slightly overcast outside so it doesn't have that amazing sparkle from the sun, but you can see it's clear! :whoot: Now I have to wonder if I can do the BBB method to clear up my fish tank, LOL.

    First Pool -- Very Frustrated

Just letting everyone know that my pool has been nice and clean for several days now. We're all very happy and enjoying it. I'm testing almost every day just to be sure the FC is holding. I don't want a green swamp every again. Thank you TFP!

    First Pool -- Very Frustrated

OCLT test results 6/30 Well OCLT was only a loss of .5 ppm FC, I've got .5 cc of CC this time around, and the pool is the clearest it's been since it was put up. I really think I'm on my way and will continue to just let it filter to get it to sparkle. Will keep on top of monitoring levels and...

    First Pool -- Very Frustrated

Well, I'm nearly there. The OCLT test today was a loss of 1.5 ppm. I did test a bit after the sun was on the pool a little because I overslept. Can I assume that I'm pretty much good? :? Even still, I brought it back up to shock level one more time. What are these things that can be suggested...

    First Pool -- Very Frustrated

Did the OCLT, I lost 2.5 ppm, so I'm shocking. I got a little distracted while doing the drops last night, so I'm not entirely sure my nighttime FC reading was accurate, but I'm playing it safe anyhow. Here were my numbers from this morning. FC 6.5 CC 1.0 pH 7.2 TA 100 CYA 30 One other question...

    First Pool -- Very Frustrated

An update: I ordered a FAS-DPD test kit from TFTestKits. That way I'll have a better handle on the exact levels of chlorine. I can see the bottom of the pool after a week. I kept the FC level up as high as I could without having the accurate kit for roughly 5 days. I've been on top of it...

    First Pool -- Very Frustrated

I got an AquaChek Select from Leslie Pools. I was going to buy the more expensive "Taylor" type one, but the employee said why spend $60 when you can spend $20, and well, the bargain-hunter took over. Plus, we've been dropping all types of cash on this pool already and I was trying to conserve...
