High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

Let's try pictures. Here's the pool after we drained most of the water and were getting started on cleanup. And here it is the day after we finally got it filled and ran the pump all night. I have a sock full of CYA floating near a jet and will bring it slooowwwllly up to around 50ppm. Want...

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

Do I need to bring this up to shock levels now or wait until I have some CYA in it? Jak

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

No. The pool looks spectacular! If I knew how, I'd post a picture. It looked good yesterday evening, but I let the pump and vac run overnight and it was really beautiful this morning. There was a lot of sediment when we finally got it filled and I got the pump sucking. I wanted to divert the...

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

OK, I had missed the directions for my problem. It still turned purple first, but then went distinctly blue at about 23 drops. I added several more drops and am sure I didn't get a color change after 24. Multiplying by 25 puts the CH at 575 - 600 +/- 10%. That seems a little more reasonable...

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

I retested today - wasn't able to do the overnight loss test - but here's what I came up with around Noon: FC = 5.6 CC = 0.0 PH = 7.5 TA = 70 CH = 650 - 750 -- Then I tested the tap water and came up with 375 to 425 -- then tested the pool water again and came up with 500 to 625. I give a...

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

OK guys, I've refilled the pool after a 75% drain and Clorox scrub to reduce CYA and clean up algae stains. I had some trouble getting the pump to prime, but finally got it going about 1:00 this afternoon and plan to let it run through the night. The water looks great. There was a lot of...

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

So I need to bite the bullet and go rent the pump again. Thanks guys. Jak

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

Dave, Draining the rest of the way would be an expensive proposition. My thinking on it was that by taking it down 3/4 I'd be able to raise the chlorine level in the remainder enough to deal with the stain and jump-start the chemistry for the refill. Is that just wishful thinking? My only...

High CYA, Low Chlorine, Algea Stains... Now what?

Help! Not knowing anything about pools - and traveling 3 out of 4 months - got me in a bind. We bought a house with a pool and happily let the TC pucks float in the floaty, but not long ago a lot of the dirt after a sand storm didn't want to be vacuumed. Then we found that brushing didn't do...

    Draining through the Pump?

Ah ha! That's where the flying saucer on the floor of the pump room is supposed to be. Looking down the skimmer I see two pipes; one full of water, the other empty. There appears to be some sort of putty around the top of one of them like something broke and someone tried to fix it with caulk or...

    Draining through the Pump?

That could be. All I know for sure is that when I turn the valve one way the skimmer shuts down and the vac goes into high gear, and when I turn the valve the other way the vac stands still and the skimmer sucks hard. I know nothing about pool plumbing and can only guess about the drain...

    Draining through the Pump?

Wow. This would be reallllly slow... When I have both intakes open the water flow out of the hose is pretty strong, but when I go to the drains and vac only - cutting out the skimmer - water pressure goes down dramatically. Also get lots of turbulence and air in the strainer bowl at the front...

    Pumping Station Labeling

When I have the Jandy valve set to Both Open, everything is smooth, with not much air churning in the window/lid of the strainer at the front of the pump, but when I switch to either side alone, I get lots more air - and noise - in the window/lid. Is that normal? The water pressure coming out...

    Draining through the Pump?

I need to exchange some water in my in-ground, plaster pool and I'm wondering if I can just use the pool pump to take water out? I have two intake pipes with a "both-or-either" valve and there is a regular faucet bib on the pipe between the pump and the filter. Assuming that one intake pipe is...

    Pumping Station Labeling

Forgive me for bouncing in late, but wouldn't drawing only from the XP-Whizz-Bang through the skimmer put a strain on the pump and reduce overall effectiveness? Wouldn't it be easier on the system to adjust the valve so that the cleaner worked effectively, but leave the other inlet open some to...
