    Sharing our personal experience

Can't argue with "pros" but I can share our personal experience which spans over 20 yrs and has always worked for us. First, see if you can find a contractor/installer that will dig out extra depth and use an expanded depth liner. IMO - one of the worst things about AGPs is inadequate swimming...

    Help choosing a pool system

We've never been tempted to consider ozonator or salt water generator for our pool cause basic pool care takes care of everything HOWEVER we can say without question than the ozonator in our spa makes a HUGE difference in ease of maintaining the water that stays at such a hot temperature...

    Borates after conversion

Personally, I wouldn't bother with the stuff. Google seems to show this to be one of those water quality enhancement products claiming to help keep PH steady. IMO - if you just get the basics levels stabilized - PH, Alkalinity and Sanitizer - then you will have to do little to maintain the...

Shrews - Calcium - and other questions

I would worry more about the li'l critters and where they have their nest - hopefully you don't have a spa sitting next to your pool. We are rural folk and dedicated to the idea of "live and let live" re critters but when we discovered rats had decided to nest in our garage and they were trying...

    Pinch-a-penny... Friend or Foe?

Pinch-A-Penny is okay if you like to pay extra for stuff. Years and years ago we learned that our neighborhood Ace hardware store is all we need to find what we need. 50 lb bags of sodium bicarbonate @ $19.99. 50 lb bags of soda ash @ $19.99. Muriatic acid @ $3.99 per jug. Liquid chlorine @ $...

    Temperature

It's all a matter of personal preference. We are older folk and quite frankly find our pool to be most comfortable once it's 90 degrees which, thank God, it finally is and will most likely stay 90 or above, Thank God well into September or, with luck, October. LOL but that's our preference.

My advice is always to K.I.S.S.

I am not an "expert" like many here - I can share over 20 yrs of very successful personal experience with our AGP. My advice is always to K.I.S.S. (Keep it Simple, Stupid). Buy a hardware store inexpensive 4-way test kit - IMO - ya don't need anything else. Use the colors on the test kit to...

Skimmer sock - all the time or just occassionally?

Okay - let me show my ignorance - why use skimmer socks at all? Sounds like an extra layer of complication and it sounds like everyone finds value in using them but I don't get it. With regular water chem level maintenance our water is always as crystal clear as we could imagine. Our Hayward...

We have a 27ft round AGP

We have a 27ft round AGP so we are in a similar situation to yours but we have had our pool for over 20 years. I am not a "pro" by any means but feel that over 20 years of success with maintaining our pool ourselves gives me a bit of credibility to answer questions. When our pool was installed...
