Replaster a good time for redesign?

We are discussing perhaps replastering this coming March/April since we have bad calcium pitting, and I was wondering if this was a good time to run new return jets on the pool. I made a thread before about poor circulation in a couple of corners (and it appears to be most of that side of the...

Battling High TA - on the losing end

some progress, waiting on pH to climb back up, it was at 7.0ish this morning but TA has definitely dropped drastically. TA is reading just under 150ppm (using 10mL sample to save reagents, will do 25mL sample when closer to 100ppm). thank you all for the help, I have to do a dye test this...

Battling High TA - on the losing end

didn't know that, I'll have to talk to my brother and FIL about shocking more often since they're so insistent on trichlor, I've tried to convert them to BBB but no luck... awesome, so for the time being I'll allow the water to do the adjusting until I can get my aerator fabricated, with a...

Battling High TA - on the losing end

well, I do believe the black algae is an issue of circulation because as long as I keep the chlorine level above 1.5ppm (typically 2-3ppm) I don't get any algae in the pool except for that corner, if I pour 1/4-1/2 gallon into that corner during addition, pool looks good. its not so much the...

Battling High TA - on the losing end

yeah, typically I don't have a problem, but sometimes after rain or if I forget to pour bleach in a certain corner (see my black algae thread) I'll get a black algae colony starting in the corner (always the same corner), other than that I never have bad algae (or hardly any actually), I maybe...

Battling High TA - on the losing end

first off, some test results for you all: FC - 3.0ppm CC - 0.0ppm pH - 7.8 (added 1 gal acid) TA - 180 CH - 150 CYA - <30 (probably closer to 15-20) so I like running low CYA, it allows me to run low FC so I don't get any chlorine smell/taste while swimming, I'm raising it closer to 30...

Help me direct my jets - black algae

I've been getting black algae in the corner of my pool for a while now. it started in '08 when I left on my honeymoon for 2 weeks, returned and the algae had set in. I poured bleach in that area and left the pump off over night, having used a metal brush prior to bleach to "pop open the...

Soft tap water caused some problems

Thanks jason, I'll put off the re-plaster, its just not in the budget and it may be unsightly, but its not doing any more harm so...and I'll probably just do an underwater repair, no need to drain and refill 5k gallons especially since we just got a water bill for 25k gallons since using power...

Soft tap water caused some problems

current test results: FC - 3.0ppm CC - 0.0ppm pH - 7.4 TA - 200 CH - 150 CYA <30 but close to Well, I have some plaster to repair on the top step. should I drain down and use a normal repair kit or are the quickset just as good? secondly, because of the soft tap water and having replaced so...

    Multiport spider gasket

first check the multiport lever and spring and what not, I think I paid $20 or so and had it completely rebuilt by warehouse pools, they didn't charge anything to do the repair...works like new. then with the new gasket, my pool buddy, who has worked on them for 14 years now, suggests using...

Questions about plaster repair and staining (pics included)

I have a friend who apparently works at the local Warehouse Pool Supply store, didn't know he worked there. he has been working on pools for the past 7 years and has learned quite a bit. for the stains, he thinks it might be metallic and suggested I use a lemon (whole lemon) and rub the rind...
