Keeping above ground open all winter

Do I need to continue to test and maintain FC levels all winter...once the water maintains a temp below 60 that is?? Right now I'm prob averaging adding around 8-10oz of bleach per day with water temps bouncing between 55-62 degrees. I'm not covering and will keep my pump running on low 24/7...

    1st year pool closing question

That sounds like an interesting device...I would probably be to paranoid that it wouldn't turn on ?

    1st year pool closing question

Three questions: 1. So I assume its just a matter of keeping the pump running 24/7 to ensure the lines and pump don't freeze up? I didn't know if I needed to do that or if I could maybe have it off during the "warmer" part of the day and only switch it on at night?? 2. Should I take the...

    1st year pool closing question

To cover or not to cover...that is the question! What a great, stress-free 1st season we had, thanks to TFP!! Now I'm debating how to close our AGP. Obviously never done a closing before so I'm turning to you pool vets out there for advice. I don't know if I should wait till water temp drops...

    Blackbirds/Grackles

We had the same thing daily, up until a few weeks ago. It was driving me INSANE!! One of two things happened, we bought a floating realistic looking alligator and anchored him to the middle of our round pool via fishing line so he couldn't float to the skimmer, and let him go. He floated around...

Looking over your numbers again, I'm a little concerned with what you posted: "TC is 2.5, FC is 0". I will defer to the more experienced experts on here but FC + CC = TC, so that tells me with NO FC level in your pool, you have a CC level of 2.5. THAT is a huge concern. If that is true, its an...

New Pool - No Chemicals Yet - Help!

Remember, put your CYA in a sock and dangle it in front of the return jet and give 'er a squeeze every now and then. It can take it a week or so before it fully mixes into your water so don't test it until then. But once the sock is empty you should assume its at the level you want and adjust...

+1 on Caseys point about the "shock". I would only use bleach for the FC and straight CYA powder put into a sock and hung over your return jet. Squeeze it a few times throughout the day and let it do its thing. Just remember, it can take about a week for the CYA to fully dissolve and register in...
