Replacement Raypak heater installation - DIY or pro?

I'm going to buy a replacement heater for my very old Raypak 206 model, and am trying to get feedback on if I should attempt a DIY installation or just pay the $800-$1,000 difference to have it installed professionally. I know either way I'll be bringing in an electrician to make the connection...

Raypak M206A Heater rattle or knocking noise

A belated thank you for that very detailed and helpful response, Pool Clown. I just returned from a week out of town so am just now catching up. I have a replacement internal bypass valve and it looks like that was definitely needed, as the current bypass valve was essentially stuck. There...

Raypak M206A Heater rattle or knocking noise

Anyone know how to test to determine if an internal bypass valve is stuck or not?

Raypak M206A Heater rattle or knocking noise

Thanks for your quick response. I assume it is a bad bypass, as I've backwashed the filter several times and the pump pressure reading is normal. I have opened up the side cover and unscrewed the unions to the input and output valves and can see the bypass valve and spring. The spring is...

Raypak M206A Heater rattle or knocking noise

My Raypak (model # P-M206A-MN-C) heater has two (perhaps related) issues that I would appreciate troubleshooting help with. First, it is making periodic but regular noise, somehwere between a rattle and a knock. Here is a link to a video demonstration: https://youtu.be/oV4NBzlaNCs From...

    Troubleshooting: Raypak pilot electrode corrosion?

I'd appreciate feedback on what appears to me to be a serious problem with my Raypak M206A series pool heater (roughly 7 years old based on the serial number). When I opened the cover to light the pilot to fire up the heater for the first time this summer, a small fire appeared NOT at the...

Why does my Raypak Heater Cycle off too soon?

Strangest thing - the heater seems to be cycling and functioning properly again. Don't know why it stopped for several days, don't know why it started back up again. Just hoping it continues. Sometimes I feel like Columbus in the old joke:Before he left he didn't know where he was going, when...

Why does my Raypak Heater Cycle off too soon?

Paul, It could be old - we bought the house a few years ago so don't know the exact age. The label identifies it as model # P-M206A-MN-C Thanks for any further feedback! _______________________________________ Do not adjust the pressure switch. When they come from the factory they are set...

Why does my Raypak Heater Cycle off too soon?

Hoping someone might have some suggestions to help me identify/troubleshoot my heater problem. I have a Rheem/Raypak 206A heater that recently began mysteriously cycling off prematurely. It will fire up and run fine for up to about 3 minutes, sometimes much less, and then cycle off and not...

Could a new pump cause higher pressure?

One further update in case anyone else encounters a similar question in the future. Once I passed the OCLT tests, I deep cleaned the sand filter. Got a LOT of gunk out of there for sure. The hardest part BY FAR was simply the PITA factor to unscrew and re-screw the gazillion screws between...

Millions of small bubbles coming in at the return jets...how can I fix this?

This is almost certainly a suction side problem that will need some patience. I just had a similar issue. You mentioned that you "tightened up on one of the pvc couplings right before the pump." What do you mean by 'coupling?' Any thing before the pump that screws in - including the actual...

Could a new pump cause higher pressure?

Just an update for any following along. Just to be certain, I replaced the new pressure gauge with a newER gauge. No luck. It's still showing 20 psi. At this point I'm going to focus on passing the OCLT tests, then I'll try deep cleaning the filter. Will report back later with outcome.

Could a new pump cause higher pressure?

No solar heating in my system at all.
