When I slammed my pool this year... I would slam it above the the FC level recommended... and then add more as it came down to that level. So I was never below it.... Like in your case, if you are targeting FC 12.. I would slam it to FC 17 then monitor it as it comes back down toward 12...

My pool looked like that or worse a week or so ago. I scrubbed the walls down. Let it settle over night. Vacuumed in the morning to get all the dead algae off the bottom. Slammed it up to 24 and ran filter 24/7. Water was blue the following AM. Kept the CL at 24 the rest of the day and...
