Testing PH when rebar is showing

Thank you - I tested the CH, have not gotten water to turn blue, and already show at 700 . yikes. Since I am replastering, hopefully soon, I will not worry. How often do you empty and refill in Nevada?

Testing PH when rebar is showing

I am planning on replastering my 15 year old pool this fall, as rebar is coming through and we have rust in 2 or 3 spots. Meanwhile I have algae, so trying to slam, however, my PH is always showing super high, as in at least 8.2 or higher. I was told that with the rust issue, I will not get...

    To lower CYA --

Well, to be nice about it, I gave the pool care to my husband when he retired. I emphasized the need for the FC to be at the target level per CYA levels. Anyway, here in Phoenix, if you don't check daily it can go sideways really quickly. Now, it will take a lot of chlorine to get to slam...

    To lower CYA --

I use HAASA liquid. 12.5% When I asked how much to start with, I meant how much should we look at draining?

    First time green pool

Vaalpens - I am also in Phoenix (West side). There are several pool stores here that carry HAASA chlorine, which is much stronger than Walmart bleach. It comes as a gallon (128 oz) and is 12.5% strength. It comes 4 gallons to a plastic tote. You pay a small deposit on your first purchase...

    To lower CYA --

My CYA is at about 75, I believe (that test is so funky :) ) So, that means I have to keep chlorine fairly high, which at this point is not happening, unfortuanately. I am thinking of backwashing some water out and refilling to lower CYA - how much do you think I should start with ...

CYA Reading after using R-7065 50ppm sample

Well, I just received my new test kit refill, and I ordered the standard. In order to read at 50, I had to stand with my back to the sun, and the turn very slightly so that I wasn't completely with my back to the sun.

    Help needed - chemistry

Are you asking why I need to test PH? Doesn't it need to be tested? and if I have to keep FC high, then I can't test reliably, so what do I do? It goes up regularly. Even when FC is below 5 and PH can be tested, it will go from 7.2 to 7.8 in a day or so. Is that normal? I think there is a...

    Help needed - chemistry

The water is clear and has always been clear, but I was noticing algae on the cleaner and hose and in the outlets. My husband had been doing the pool since he retired, and did not know about FC per the CYA levels, so he was just making sure some showed on the tester. He went on a vacation and I...

    Help needed - chemistry

My plaster pool is 13 -14 years old. I am getting it replastered in a month or two, so don't want to empty and refill at this point, so need some help. I attempted a slam over the past week, and now letting my chlorine come down. I am out of the R0871 so can't get exact reading at this point...

    Chlorine Drop Test

What does this last line mean? Is there a typo here?

    Algae visible, no FC loss

At what level can I get in? I will make sure to brush and backwash - have cleaned the outlets, the tile around the skimmer and the cleaner. Not much algae on the sides, I think I caught it in time, but every year at this time we get algae on one side of the pool. plaster is old and gives...

Is it okay for me to get in my pool with chlorine this high, to take the light out? And thanks for the answers!!
