Out of curiosity Richard320, could the problem be the spider gasket allowing water to bypass his filter, and go straight to the skimmer and back out his pool? Or are the laterals a more likely culprit? I ask because I'm having the same problem :-/

One other thing possibly worth noting: when I saw dirt coming out the returns it was when I started a BIG job. When I saw DE coming out of the returns, it was after I added 2 cups all at once (I usually do it 1/4 cup at a time).

Also, if I had a broken lateral, shouldn't I see sand coming back into the pool?

After 30 minutes I still had so much crud coming up it looked like the Eye of Sauron. Took over an hour to get it running clear. No wonder my pool is cloudy... I'll get everything put back together and back flushed and report back when I know if it worked or not!
