Well, pumped down around 38% or 3600 gallons and refilled. Can't wait for my water bill..... results CL <.5, pH stll around 8, CH 225, TA 90 (expected it to drop)..., and CYA is now around 45, which is about on target. calculated adds with pool math added CL, Acid, and CaCl2. so will...

My target is 45 - 50. When I bought my house 2 years ago it was 160. So I did two major drains last year to get it to 55 or so. We are snowbirds so the pool is maintained by the pool guy who generally runs the CL injector. so after 6 months away it was back to 80 or so. Its going to be cool...

Is there a particular order that chemicals should be added in when restarting after pumping down 35% of the water to reduce CYA?:p

When we purchased our pool home in Florda, I had no idea what it took to maintain a clear clean pool. That's been fixed almost entirely due to the knowledge and wisdom that I've gleaned from TFP. Thanks for all the effort of all the site administrators and members. Bravo Zulu

I've been letting the pH sit around 7.5 to 7.6 for several days. There pH seems to be more stable at the slightly higher level and I haven't made any acid additions for the last 3 days. woohoo!!!!!

thanks for the answers. The entirety of the chemical reactions contained in a pool is very interesting. Thankfully with the help of all of you TFP folks, my pool has worked great ever since we bought the house last november. My pool contractor apparently has done a good job while we are up...

If I understand this right, combined chloramines are created when the chlorine we add to the pool actually react with something in the pool and the resultant is a dead something and the chloramines. I also think I understand that the chloramines are what causes the "chlorine smell" and...

Thanks to the TFP leaders for helping me get my pool in great shape. Question though a lot of the "literature" seems to recommend pH levels in the 7.2 - 7.5 range based on eye pH or other ..........who knows what. the TFP recommended levels are 7.5 to 7.8. What is the background and reasons...

Sorry I didn't see that the problem was upon opening the pool. I can see that a pool that is closed can have all sorts of bad things happen . p fortunately......my pool is operated all year, even though I'm not here. I have a pool service that seems to do pretty well as at least the pool...

How does a pool like this get so screwed up in the first place? It seems with reasonable care, this shouldn't happen. I sure hope so. I've had my pool for a year,,,,,,,,,i'm only here 5 months.....but its clear everyday. I hope to never have to deal with this kind of mess. :D

AFtermath report CYA now 20............what's with that. Anyway did adds for FC, pH, TA and .....who knew a reasonable stabilizer...... I started this whole thing to lower CYA and now I'm adding Oh Well - - - Updated - - - The CYA is now 40............ tweaked everything else yesterday...

Well we have returned to florida. I found that my pool guys was a little lax. But there also had been a terrific amount of rain. pH was around 7, FC was 6.5 and the pool seems clear and clean, calcium was 200 and the CYA was about as I left it at 80. So I plan to make another drain and refill...
