So you want to add borates to your pool--Why and How

4:1 ratio? I just did mine and used 10 boxes borax to 3 gallons of acid (3.33:1) and even then, I could add a little more acid as the pH is now around 7.6 - 7.65 (so hard to tell!) so perhaps 3:1 would be just right for me. Until the pH is a definite 7.7, I'm going to leave it alone. It looks...

Algae every 2 wks despite maintaining FC of 7+ in SWG pool

I have the TFP test kit and test for FC and pH every day; CYA about once a week. TA every two weeks or so as that doesn't seem to fluctuate much. The SWG has an automatic readout for Salt level.

Algae every 2 wks despite maintaining FC of 7+ in SWG pool

I shocked about 2 weeks ago (last algae sighting) Since then the FC stayed so high I had the SWG off or, for the last couple of days, at 25% during the 12-hour pump run I give it each day. Normally, I run it around 40% to maintain. CC was 0 - 0.5. Overnight I lost 0-0.5 FC so I'm sure the algae...

Algae every 2 wks despite maintaining FC of 7+ in SWG pool

Are you answering me or jParr? Are you saying mine is likely mustard algae, too? The regular 24 ppm shock does seem to take care of it for the time anyway. Mine's not under shade or removable ladder necessarily. However, it does appear to begin in areas where the water doesn't circulate as well...

Algae every 2 wks despite maintaining FC of 7+ in SWG pool

I shock it to at least 22-24 ppm, sometimes higher. I leave the SWG going to maintain FC levels while it's clearing. I clean the filter every 2-3 weeks (not since last algae about 2 weeks ago, though). Pool Temp has been around 85.

Algae every 2 wks despite maintaining FC of 7+ in SWG pool

It came back today. Here are my readings FC - 8.0 CYA - 60 (though I usually keep it closer to 75) TA - 70 Salt - 3100 pH - 7.5 I don't understand why it keeps coming back. I run the pump on high 12 hours a day. The FC stays high. I haven't been running the SWG much because the FC has stayed...

First time ever saw some slight green patches on the bottom

Oops. I hadn't gotten a response so I went ahead and hit the pool with CYA and upped the chlorine just a bit to 7.5. The green patches returned. Fortunately, I read that it takes up to a week for CYA to get saturated into the water so I shocked it with bleach tonight and turned the SWG on Super...

First time ever saw some slight green patches on the bottom

Here's are my numbers and situation: SWG pool - above ground. Salt 3100 FC 6.0 CC 0.5 TC 6.5 CYA 55 TA 60 pH 7.65 It was a very hot, sunny week and FC dipped as low as 3.5 one day. It was harder to raise it than I thought it would be since it dipped that low. I cleaned the cartridge...

    Is my pump overpowered?

I've been running the SWG on only 30-40% and it keeps up fine on high. I can always turn it up while running on low, but I was worried more about getting enough filtration on low. I'll give it a shot for the next couple of days and see how much the chlorine level drops on low at 30% and how...

    Is my pump overpowered?

Does it matter that I have an above-ground pool? It's 12,500 gallons, but has a 2 HP pump on high (I believe 1/2 hp on low). Two return jets. I've been running 12 hours a day on high. Too much?

New AG pool; liner question - HELP!

Update: With water now in the pool, the liner has stretched and is pressed back against the wall. Whew!

New AG pool; liner question - HELP!

The vinyl liner in my new AG pool isn't close to touching one far oval corner wall. It's just filling up with water now, but the liner must be 10 inches away from the wall in the back corner. I can't even push the wall and liner close enough together to make them touch. Is this normal or did...

Should you test the water at room temperature?

What Jason said... and just as an addendum - no matter what temperature it is in the room, it's always room temperature. :)

    CYA dropped, WHAT?

Just a quick hello from down the river a bit. My AG pool will be finished tomorrow (I hope), but it's my second one so I'm not really a newbie. 3-inch tabs in a floater will raise CYA and FC, but your FC is high enough already at 8.5 so definitely no more bleach while the floater is working. I'd...

New pool - where to start?

Thanks to all for your responses. In no small part due to your posts I was able to convince my wife that SWG was the better way to go - corrosion potential or not so I'll be getting the Aquatrol SWG for my new pool being installed Saturday!!!
