    CYA over 200

Yes, yes and YES! You will need to drain most of the water (and refill) to get the CYA to acceptable levels. Just depending on where you are and what type of pool you have be carefull with how low you drain the pool.

    Dogs in pool

I don't have a liner pool, but it took about 15 minutes (of guidance towards the correct spot) for my pooch to learn where to get out at. All my dog had been in prior to my home purchase were ponds where she could walk out anywhere she pleased. A few short sessions and your dog should learn...

What effect does a screen enclosure have on chlorine use?

I have searched and searched on here but can't find much of anything useful. My pool has a flat roofed screen enclosure, What effect does that have on chlorine use versus a pool with no screen? Or on any other chemicals in the water. I'm just a curious feller...

30 min. of hose flush and still nasty water (sand filter)

Re: 30 min. of hose flush and still nasty water (sand filter I changed the sand. It took 275lbs of sand... so it looks like I know which filter I have, TR-60. While draining the sand out, it was non stop chunks of some rather large matter (maybe lint?) floating on top of the sand. The pressure...

30 min. of hose flush and still nasty water (sand filter)

Re: 30 min. of hose flush and still nasty water (sand filter Actually the filter is Pre Dec. 1, 1991. According to the manual and threads on the cap. So the sand may be over 20 years old... Water is clear and balanced.

30 min. of hose flush and still nasty water (sand filter)

Re: 30 min. of hose flush and still nasty water (sand filter The previous owners had the house for 12 years and I highly doubt they did much of any maintenance on the pool other than dump 4+ gallons of bleach in a week... and make sure the auto feeder was full of tablets running WFO. I would...

30 min. of hose flush and still nasty water (sand filter)

I'm resurecting the green, neglected pool at my new house. I have gotten the water cleaned up, all chemicals adjusted and just replaced the noisy leaking pump with a 1hp two speed Whisperflo. The pressure at the sand filter was 19psi (with new pressure gauge) even after backwashing. The...

My sand is "channeled" how to fix it?

A question in addition to this... Instead of just a regular garden hose stuck into the the sand to flush debri out, how would turning the multi-valve to backwash then capping off the backwash exit tube to let more water flow out the top than the average garden hose can supply work?

New pool owner needs new pump

Sorry, my CYA number was doubled from the physical test. The test with half and half was just under 50, or over depending on how you think of it... about 48.9736ppm  The only thing I have no idea about is the salt content. Maybe I will have the pool store test that next time in so I can...

New pool owner needs new pump

Made progress today! I went in and checked out the spots. Pretty sure it's not BA. I scrubbed with a wire brush and nothing happened. Looks like the marks are under the sand/stone/plaster/what ever the top surface is... One spot down at the drain looks like it was a nail that completely rusted...

New pool owner needs new pump

No I haven't. Just read through the additional instructions about testing the water and that was one recommendation I saw. I have DI water at work that I'm going to use to dillute any test I need to.

New pool owner needs new pump

A quick update: I was running some errands today and decided to take some water to another pool store to see how their tests compared to Pinch A Pennys'. WOW what a difference... Their results: FC 5 TC 5 pH 7.2 TA 70 Tot...
