Just tip the thing up at the output end for a moment. Bubbles will escape to the pool. :)

It sounds as if something's not right on the timer. It shouldn't make a difference in bypass mode or not. You could also use a short (2') pigtail to connect to the timer so you don't have interference from the shape of the filter GFCI.

I've done the same thing with a floor jack. Works great, no apparent stress on the liner.

Allow me to toss my 2 cents in. I just finished setting our pool up for the 4th year in a row. Off by 2.5 - 3 inches every year. on the low side, I'll take a couple of 2x4 scraps and set them under the legs. It helps and they don't move. I wouldn't sweat the unstrapped leg. You're right in...
