Drain plug leak underneath Starite System 3 Filter

Noticed a slow (once every 10-20 second) leak from this drain plug underneath my System 3 filter. I’ve never had this plug off, rather using the one on the side. Is there any issue with getting this plug off and replacing an o-ring I should know about? It’s a tolerably slow leak and I don’t...

Skimmer door stuck - unusual situation

I walked out last week to my pump groaning and noticed very little waterfall action. Perplexed I initially thought I had a pump or electrical problem. Come to find out my skimmer door had somehow pushed outward past the little plastic tab sticking down from the ceiling of the skimmer housing...

Crumbling mortar or grout at waterline tile

I have an older pool, probably 12-15 yrs old or so, at the house I moved into several years ago. At that time it had been neglected somewhat. Unfortunately the condition of the mortar (I assume by appearance-see pics below) at the waterline and in some cases below the waterline was invaded by...

    Help-pump won't turn off

Looking at the owners manual, it is not obvious which relay to buy? I see 3HP and 1.5 HP jandy relays for sale. My assumption is the 3 HP is the right one for my pump (see signature)? Is there anything special about relays I need to pay attention to, in regards to electrical ratings. I'd...

    Help-pump won't turn off

Well, I walked out there 10 minute later and it had shut itself down. Reading through the searches about this it sounds like it might be a sticky relay. I assume this means it is on its way out. Is this a simple job: turn off power, detach simle wire leads, replace relay, or is there...

    Help-pump won't turn off

Tonight after vacuuming I attempted to turn my pump off at the outside control panel ( Jandy Aqualink RS Onetouch) and it does not respond. I can switch to low speed but I cannot turn the pump all the way off. That is, the "pump" button is not working but the aux 2 low speed) does respond...

    Cutting quartzite

I have an elevated spa with a waterfall into the pool. The waterfall is made of stacked and mortared quartzite ( I believe this is the material, but I'm not a geologist). One of the tiles at the top was missing when we moved in. There are some leftover shards of quartzite that I am going to...

Do pool covers pay for themselves?

I live in the southern california desert, with a very hot, dry climate. I have been looking at buying a "bubble wrap" style pool cover. What's holding me back so far is the initial and ongoing cost (replacement every 1-2 yrs from what I've read) and the hassle of taking it off and on. One...

    Water hammer when vacuuming?

No. This is a new issue that started with the installation of the pentair pump. It's a bit disconcerting. I'm going to try and localize the thump with the help of my wife.

    Water hammer when vacuuming?

Come to think of it, the pool tech replaced a spider valve on the suction line side when he replaced the pump, because the spa was losing about 6 inches of water overnight.

    Water hammer when vacuuming?

I believe ther is a spider valve on the suction lines where they converge at the jandy automatic valve. - - - Updated - - - There is a spa drain (two of them) and the main drain. At the bottom of the skimmer there are two holes. Am I correct that one of them comes from the main drain...

    Water hammer when vacuuming?

Is it possible to vacuum on low speed? I've started going down to low speed before shutting off the pump. I think I made a mistake going with this pump. I tried to match the total horsepower of the old starite because i have a spa, but it seems substantially more powerful. It may even be...

Tool to get Whisperflo pump basket cover off?

Where are you placing the blows of the hammer? On to the ears? I guess I'm not understanding how that will work? I must be over tightening.

    Water hammer when vacuuming?

No, I put the end of the vacuum line directly into the bottom of the skimmer. I don't use a vac plate. Bad idea? The noise is fairly jarring. I don't want to crack any lines, etc, thus the concern. Then again, I don't know what I can do about other than go back to a weaker pump.
