Snapped Bolts On Pump...Safe to use still?

Hi, Those bolts don't connect to the pump. They hold the motor itself together. Only time you take them out is to disassemble the motor to work on it. Two bolts will probably hold everything together. It is usually a tight fit even with the bolts out. Having said that, I don't know if I would...

    Repairing Slide Backwash Valve

Easiest thing to do is remove the slide valve and take it to a pool store. It should pull right out.

    muratic acid suspension

Equipment off and brush. MA doesn't fall out of suspension. Once mixed with the water it lowers pH. If it were somehow in suspension you would never be able to turn off your pool equipment. I would follow United's instructions. This procedure has been around for a long time.

Trouble with gas heater, pilot on?

Just want to be clear on a couple of things. Your pilot light is lit but the burners aren't firing, correct? Is the dial on the gas valve set to ON? I believe that heater is a millivolt system. That means the pilot flame provides the power for the system. It heats a pilot generator which is...

    CLUELESS! DE filter help!

It depends on where it is plumbed in. If it's after the filter there is no problem. Sounds like it may be plumbed before the filter and uses the jandy energy filter? If that is the case check the energy filter to see if it's loaded with DE. Clean it if it is. I would then BW again (with valve...

    SOLVED: Intermatic Problem

Yes, that looks like the correct setup. They originally sold you a 110v clock but with a 220v plastic cover so I wouldn't feel bad at all. Glad it worked out for you. Tim

    No Skimmer Suction

You can run water through it to see if it's open but the problem is, it may be open a little and allow water through but not open enough to allow the pump to prime. As you said in your first post, the problem started when the handle broke. That tells me the valve is closed or mostly closed now...

    No Skimmer Suction

What type of valve is it that you have? Sounds like even though you are able to turn the valve it isn't opening.

Just bought a house and apparently a swamp!!

I agree with Anne completely on this one. Killing the algae now and having it grow back and be exactly as it was when it started is better than letting the algae grow and reaching a point where it is very difficult to remove. If black algae is involved it is even more important to hit early. If...

    rain water and overflow

One way to lower the level is start a syphon using your vacuum hose and drain some away from the pool. Fill the hose with water and drop one end of the hose over the side of the pool.

    SOLVED: Intermatic Problem

Re: Intermatic Problem I think Randy has it right. What I see is 220v wiring but a 110v box. The plastic cover on the time clock that goes over the wiring shows a 220v setup which is strange. The wiring coming from the pump would indicate 220v motor. There is no neutral wire that I can see. A...

    Pump's dead - any advice?

One thing you can test is the impeller. You want to make sure it isn't stuck. Turn off the power, open the pump lid and remove the pump basket. Reach into the opening back toward the motor and see if you can turn the impeller. Debris sometimes gets in there and prevents the impeller from...

    Possible sand filter problem.

If your valve is set to recirculate it is bypassing the filter, if I remember correctly. So you should see the CYA come back into the pool. You want the valve set on filter so the CYA enters the filter and dissolves from there.

    Leaky DE filter

On the top of the filter there should be a pressure gauge and air relief valve. If the dribble is coming from the air relief valve, try tightening the part that opens and closes it. If it is from a connection, you can redo them using teflon tape. When you shut the system off can you hear air...

    Algae and Ears...

That is one giant pool. I would get the CYA level checked and corrected. The low pH should be a major concern if there is a heater in your system. The low pH shouldn't have anything to do with the ear problems. The pH of the ear canal is about 4.5 and it is high pH water that causes the problems...
